What are your thoughts on this statement...?

*“When faced with a difficult choice, make the decision which will make the most people happy”
*
… but what if the decision making the most people happy, makes you unhappy? And its a lifelong decision, not something to be taken lightly…

Re: What are your thoughts on this statement…?

ain ? :konfused:

Re: What are your thoughts on this statement...?

goshhh its the hardest decision u will ever have to take...
it depends on the person on how much is he willing to sacrifice for others without hurting himself all thrugh it

whoa .. where did you get this statement from? Totally wrong statement. Life is not a popularity contest dude. When faced with a difficult choice, make the decision that is a right one, not a popular one*. *

Sacrificing your life without a motivation is hard to do. Be rational in your thinking especially when its a matter of whole life.no emotional decisions.

Re: What are your thoughts on this statement...?

trust me people won't come and cry with you when you are miserable.. you will live your miserable life alone. Do not make a decision just to make others happy.. try to strike a balance.. where you are happy without hurting others.

how do you know what the right decision is? it's not "right" to make a decision which will make your family unhappy, it's selfish isn't it?

or am I looking at this the wrong way around?

Re: What are your thoughts on this statement...?

yess..how do we know wats the right decision...???
its hard to decide between yourself and ur family...been thru that...still going

I don't think some families realise just how much they're asking of you sometimes... and there's no real way to put it across to them without coming off as the bad guy

Now you are picking a specific situation so I cant answer that. But right decisions are the hardest to make and usually the least amount of people are happy with that.

Give you an example. You have to pick a job outside your city. You need to move out. That will make your family and yourself unhappy. But the job is good for your career growth and pays well which is good for you to support your family. Hard decsion and not so happy for others.

Re: What are your thoughts on this statement...?

Just do what you need to do to make yourself happy. If your happiness lies with everyone else being happy then do that, if making them happy wont result in your happiness then don't.

There is no right or wrong answer.

Re: What are your thoughts on this statement...?

^ Now that is also a wrong approach. Guys .. right decision has nothing to do with happiness (at least short term happiness). When I say no to my daughter when she asks for candy, and she cries, that does not make any of us happy, but still is the right decision.

Re: What are your thoughts on this statement...?

^ LOL how can you compare 'candy' to this statement?

Your funny.

Like I said in my post, there is no RIGHT decision.

Re: What are your thoughts on this statement...?

One should try to make right decision (or which seems more right) and not popular decision. Right decisions always pay off in long run.

I don't agree. It depends on how strongly you feel about whatever it is and your choice should be based on that. At the end of it, you will have to live with it not the other people so might as well keep your choice as the prime criteria. However saying that, it doesnt mean that you don't try and make your choice pleasant for all but def not at yr expense. ;)

I think what I wanted to know was how do you know which is the right decision?

One way of looking at it is: "A is the decision which makes a lot of people very happy, but it might make me unhappy. B makes lots of people very unhappy but I remain unaffected". Therefore A is the right decision? Surely route B is just selfish

What other ways are there to choose between the two? Can't I have a crystal ball to look into the future and decide whether I like how things will end up?!

Decision is a decsion.

There are right decisions. The ones that are good in long terms are the right ones. Instant gratifications often are results of wrong decisions

you can program everything but life with the help of IF-THEN/ELSE.

life is not that simple or black&white as you are painting it. It has 7million colors. you learn decision making over time ....

That's a very good point and I think making everyone else happy will fall into the "instant gratification" category

Wish I had more time but..... sigh
