Re: What are you reading?
I liked Blasphemy by Tehmina Durrani. It’s a very graphic read. I have the copy and anyone who reads it finishes it quite quickly, hard not to put a train wreck down.
I’m gonna try to get a hold of her My Feudal Lord, have not heard of Mainda Saeen…are you making this one up? ![]()
Re: What are you reading?
My Feudal Lord was like crack lol…I couldn’t put it down…I was repulsed and fascinated at the same time
Re: What are you reading?
Yes. And I think a couple of those short stories might be in the one I’ve checked out.
A few months ago a friend of my dad’s had visited and given him a copy of Bombay Stories. It just remained on the table in living room and I took it to my room cuz I’m the bookworm in the family. My mom took it back saying that my dad was going to return it to the friend. Later on she told me that was a lie uttered to get the book away from me because “yeh bachon ki parhne wali book nahi” ![]()
Re: What are you reading?
My feudal Lord is known as ‘Meda Sain’ to Bun-kababs.. With Burgers its ‘My Feudal Lord’ ![]()
I’ve read Urdu translation of Blsphemy (Kufr), when I was on an audit and stayed in Rahimyar Khan (Southern Punjab) for a month ![]()
Re: What are you reading?
lols. I read Manto’s ‘Thanda Gosht’ in First year, when it it was published in a magazine. My cousin saw that magazine, but his criticism fell on one of the short story by "Noorul Huda Shah’ for using open language. Propbably, he didn’t know Thanda Gosht was an explosive against Noorulhuda Shah’s story.
Re: What are you reading?
Then try Blasphemy, it will be no less disturbing. I think Feudal Lord is based on Mustafa Khar whom she was once married to. Blasphemy is the supposedly the true story of someone else who relayed her life to Durrani.
Re: What are you reading?
Funny thing is I have Blasphemy on my book shelf…I brought if from my Ammi’s house after she passed away, but I’ve never read it. I’ll dust it off and put it in the stack by my bed
Re: What are you reading?
I think over the years that book lost it shock factor. if I read it again, I won’t be as surprised as I was 10 years back when I read it first time.

Don’t know what to make out of it,
Re: What are you reading?
‘Maine Bible se poocha! Quran kiyun jale?’. A book written after Terry Jones speech for burning Quran discussing how Quran respects Prophets mentioned in Bible compared to allegation imposed on them in Bible and raising question ‘why should be a book which respects all the Prophets be burned by those who follow the books which disrespects their own Prophets’.
