What are you reading?

Re: What are you reading?

^So you can read too :hoonh:

Re: What are you reading?

How old is your daughter? There's pretty explicit violence and sex in these books (and even more so in the HBO miniseries).

Re: What are you reading?

She's 14. We haven't seen the miniseries, so thanks for the warning. :-)

Re: What are you reading?

I just googled that book and it's not what my daughter is looking for. I have mixed it up with a different series. She wants to read 'The Hunger Games', not 'Game of Thrones'.

Re: What are you reading?

^ Ah yes, that makes more sense!

Re: What are you reading?

Well, I am mixing up many children's books and books for teenagers. Sometimes when I go to the library for my books my daughter gives me a list of books for her as well and then sometimes I'm completely lost without a library computer or a librarian to help me find her books. She comforts me by telling me in only a few more years she'll be reading adult books too which are easier to find for me. ;-D

There are more books for children and teenagers now in so many more genres than when I was growing up. Books which were popular when I was about 11-12 years old were still immensely popular when I was 15-16 for example. Nowadays the shift in popularity seems to be more various and sooner. The choice in books has never been as great before. It's an amazing time to be growing up right now as far as reading books goes (not as far as other aspects of life go).

Re: What are you reading?

started reading the 2nd book of Ice and Fire series "A Clash of Kings". Seems like there's gonna be a lot of blood in this one.

Re: What are you reading?

I just finished 'The writing on my forehead' by Nafisa Haji and enjoyed it from the first page till the last, especially the family history from both sides of the main character.

Yesterday I began 'The Birthing House' by Christopher Ransom. It's supposed to be scary, but I'm still in the beginning and so far it's mysterious. I can't wait to read the rest of the book.

Re: What are you reading?

I was listening to the BBC radio and the Author Vikram Seth was being interviewed about his upcoming novel ‘A Suitable Girl’ after the success of his last novel ’ A suitable Boy’. So I decided to give it a go. I am in the middle of reading ‘suitable boy’ right now, it is very long at around 1400 pages. It is written beautifully and he is very good with his words, but I’m not too keen on the homosexuality angle. :disgust:
Do sub continental authors feel they have to write controversial stuff in order to attract western publishers or what???

Re: What are you reading?

I finished "A Suitable Boy" last month..loved it!

I was just given "The Power of Now" by Ekhart Tolle by a friend...liking it so far...

Re: What are you reading?

Reading "Songs of Blood & Sword" by Fatima Bhutto :)

Loving the book - Im not a pro-PPP, but I really respect fatima bhutto for the kind of struggles she went through to write this book, for the research she did into the lives of her great Grandfather, grandfather and father. Anyone looking to read something powerful and yet humbling at the same time should definitely get a copy!
