These are mainly for hte young adult section....but I love Chris Crutcher's books. They deal with teenagers who are in athletics but also deal with some heavy stuff.
For example, "staying fat for Sarah byrnes" is about a friendship between a former fat-kid and a girl who was burned in an accident as a child who now sits in a mental hospital unable to speak..and he tries to help her.
I used to read his books in HS, stopped for a while.and im falling in love with them again.
On another note, its really interesting to re-read a book after several years...something about the time passed and how you grow as a person can have an effect on the way you perceive a novel :)
Another one I read recently--The girl most likely to, by Poonam Sharma...its about an (Indian) ABCD in her late 20s and how she deals with her family, career, and finding a spouse. I didn't like it very much at all. Too cliche and boring.
Checked it out from the library, but couldn't get into it. I read The Fat Girl by Marilyn Sachs that I really liked. It's about this guy who develops a sort of hatred toward this girl in his high school ceramics class...all because she's overweight. This girl also has a crush on him...is always staring at him...and this aggravates the guy even more. Well one thing leads to another and he finds himself developing a crush on her (which is basically her dream come true).....but then turns into a nightmare.....because it's one very manipulative relationship. The guy, of course, has his own personal issues with his family. I love reading teen/young adult books and though this book (which I read only a few months ago) was not an award winner....I enjoyed it.
^ That sounds so depressing and sad
Why didnt u like “Staying fat for sarah byrnes”? I admit its a bit slow in the beginning…but towards the middle it does pick up. There’s one passage that had me bawling on the bus ride home…just b/c it was so horrific and sad.

Just finished reading The Time Traveler's Wife, which I really enjoyed since I read after a long while. I would love to get some suggestions on what to read next?
Finished reading Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. I couldn't put the book down but suddenly near the end I think the author lost the plot! Hehe! :)
I finished reading "A thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini and would recommend it to anyone. It's a tale of two women and their lives during the turmoil in Afghanistan.
im currently reading The Toss Of A Lemon by Padma Viswanathan. its set in the late 19th century and spans the life of a young widowed mother in india. its pretty good and the characters are really engaging.
