Re: What are you reading?

I like browsing this thread every now and tehn. I was in the market for a book for the longest time and I am quite selective about what I read.

Thanks to all the posters who mentioned Man-o-Salwa. I finished it in a few days adn loved it. My first novel in Urdu, though.

Now I am looking for another one. I hope someone can suggest me something else along the same themes of Man-o-Salwa. Oh and I also wish ending didn't happen the way it did.

The Lost Symbol, am almost through.

The Lost Symbole was such a let down. :nook:

I just started reading “The Shadow of the Wind” today. And WOW, so far it’s amazing! :biggthumb:

Lost Symbol really was crappy.

How is it?

Re: What are you reading?

on the last 30 pages of Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a dutch politician.
Better to read someone before openly criticizing them.

Well... its set in Pakistan. Its about a girl called Zarri Bano and shes this independent kurri whos life gets turned upside down after the death of her bro.. It is quite possibly, the best book I have ever read. Its bloomin fantastic, I cant put it down. Just too damn good...

Re: What are you reading?

 sounds so interesting!!!

I’m totally going to pick it up..
thanks dear.

Is it any good?

I've been meaning to read it as well since seeing her getting slagged off on various Islamic forums.. wanted to see what all the fuss was about..

i think the book is full of naive and biased parts. but it was an interesting read just to see her talkng about this other culture that i absolutely dont know about. and to see this transformation of a woman who is from such backward country to how she goes about making her life in the west on her own.
she can be quite self-absorbed, although she denies it. she is complaining a lot. she is saying a lot of crappy things that only making sense to her and to her right wing fellows.
before reading the book, i thought she become an athiest for the exact same reasone every other person is an apostate for. after reading the book, i think the same, there is nothing radically new to her story in that sense.
she counteracts arguments like "but this doesnt happen in the modern islam" by just saying that this doesnt make the issues disappear from where they are still happening. and this i agree with. i do stand up with her on her efforts towards emancipation of muslim women in europe. but i dont believe in the way she is going about it. she should not force her idea of islam on others. she should not force her islamic understanding through her culture's eyes on others.
all in all. i finished the book in four days. which means i was totally in it.
normally, i dont read books a lot. i cant.

i start reading the caged virgin today. but no more of her books after this. they are all the same probably. she is writing another book now. and geert wilders in making fitna part 2. recently in an intervew she said that the Christian God is better than the Muslims God. I have no difficulty in believing she could even be getting paid to say all this.
