I thought provincialism is a big problem, but maybe its not. I have jotted down a few problems facing Pakistan. Select the three biggest ones you feel should top the list. I am sure some problems feed other problems and some merely overlap.
This list is in no particular order. Please pick THREE biggest problems
Poverty (No significant oil reserves or gold mines)
Lack of education amongst the masses
Over population (one of the largest population growth)
Lack of infrastructure (bad roads etc)
Feudal culture
Religious differences (shia-sunni etc)
Corruption
Provincial hatred (Sindhis against Punjabis etc)
Bad geography (threatening neighbors - India, Afghanistan etc)
Bad leadership
Once we have the problems prioritized, then we can discuss how to resolve them. Don’t give any suggestions to fix these problems, yet. Thanks!

I'd prefer EDUCATION first. Once, you have education, problems would solve easily. No wonder, Pakistan's literacy is 38%, which is hardly 1/4 of the population. Furthermore, education of WOMEN should be MUST. In this case, WOMEN will progress further along with MEN in every field of life. In other words, all these problem you have mentioned buddy, education is the only to get rid of them. Make no mistake. Do include KASHMIR AGENDA too. Because it is also Pakistan's core issue. Well, the three biggest problems that Pakistan is facing are:
1. The people of Pakistan,( everyone going for shortcuts)
2. A large number of illiterate Graduates.
3. An army that is interfering in domestic politics!
First and formost, Pakistani Policitians stinks, no wonder. Second, I have more faith in Army than any other people. Third, it is in Dictatorship, I'm seeing countless investment in Pakistan. It is Army, who wants to get rid of Terrorism and corrupt leaders from Pakistan. That puts Army on a winning position.
About ISI, yes they did feed Jihadis. It started in Nawaz and Benazir leadership. It was these politicians, who didn't take care of Madarassaas. For that, I can't blame Army and Musharraf, anyh cost. Now, ISI has been controlled by Musharraf regime. I live in Pakistan and I want see to education and investment in my country. And from my side, Army is the only one stable unit in Pakistan. Rest of the units, STINKS!
I don't like to see Military presence in Pakistan's Govt. office. But unfortunately, there's no one sincere and honest person in Pakistan, who could take this responsibility. I'm fed up with these moron politicians. That is why I prefer Army and Musharraf(personally)

I usually target the source of all evils/problems, not the secondary/derivative/unavoidabale issues.
u can not spend all national income on non-productive areas, and then beg around the world for education, health and infrastructure. Anyone (IMF, paris club, etc) who might help u will do so making sure that u remain their slaves for all the time to come.

To those who merely used it to fan hatred or to divert to other irrelevant issues.... get a life.
A majority seems to think that lack of education is probably one of the biggest problems facing Pakistan. While some people may argue that our shabby education system (peela school) is rotten because of lack of funds. Some people think corruption causes all our finances to go to waste, which all boils down to bad leadership. One reason for bad leadership is the **feudal culture **which does not allow deserving candidates to come out and win.
Pakistan really can't do much about annoying neighbors, unless we give up all rights of Kashmir, hang Kashmiris to a wire and wash our hands off them. And additionally give our part of Kashmir back to India. That will be the perfect solution for Indians and is still no guarantee that India will not continue to eye the remaining Pakistan to figure out which piece it should get next.
On top of that we have two annoying problems created by our own people. The religious extremism and the provincial hatred. While religious extremism is fed by lack of education, provincial hatred is fanned by finite and limited resources shared by different regions and an over-populated country.
Yes, its a circular argument, but if you read the above passage you will figure out that the three biggest problems are
1. Feudal culture
2. Bad leadership
3. Bad geography
Feudal culture does not allow good leaders. Bad leadership wastes our resources in corruption and does not allow spending our resources on education and infrastrcture. Lack of education allows religious extremists to recruit people to fanatic ideologies, created over-population and bad management of our resources fans provincial hatred.
Even if we have a good leadership, our bad geography will mean we will continue to spend more than proportionate resources on the defence of our country due to its historic differences with the biggest neigbor. This disproportionately high spending on defence will mean smaller distribution to other essential services.

Don't you think education will kill 1 & 2... According to western analyst future wars will be faught over water. With a rapidly growing population ( damn punjabis again ) we are close.
And feudal culture is responsible for bad leadership. Lack of education, over population, bad spending habits, provincial hatred, religious fantacism are all because of bad leadership and bad management. Not the other way round. :)

catch 22!!! without educated masses you may never get a good leader. wanna bet who will be the next PM if elections are held. Even by Quranic declaration "Nation gets the leader it deserves"
