When you get so many reputation points from people, you get a star. Some people have 1 star, some have 2 and some have 3 and so on. It basically tells how much you are liked by the people.

i.e. you have 18,000+ points = 1 star
I have 36,000+ points = 2 stars

You can check who gave you points on what and what the total number is, click on your nick and then click on "view public profile"

Reputation is basically like "I like this member" and I look at it as when a new person joins gupshup, he/she can see which member has good reputation and which member has bad reputation. So it'll give him/her an idea who the famous people are.

You should see 3 icons under my green bar: a blue button, a scale, and a triangle.

Click on the scale and then you can provide your reason for giving me the reputation and that's it. Some people start abusing it when they keep giving reputations to their friends, but that's okay, there are some controls in the system that won't allow you to spread reputation like flooding.

Also, your reputation power is 372 (written above the green bar) and mine is (4649). There is some weird calculation method behind it but basically the longer you've been on gupshup, the more power you have. The more your posts are, the more your power is. etc. etc. etc.

So if I give you reputation points, you will get MANY because of my high power (i.e. what I say matters more because I have more reputation power). If you give me reputation points, I won't get as many because your reputation power level is low.

It's so confusing.
