In Islam, their is no concept of Engagements but in our society they are as good as marriage i suppose.

**Not true.. There is the concept of engagement, Prophet Mohammed himself (PBUH) got engaged.. Our culture has just chosen to pretend otherwise (perhaps to minimise the risk of the kids rebelling and not going thru with it before the parents can marry them off lol)..

Islamic engagement=intention to marry and a signal to others that the person in question is ‘promised’ (ie other potentials should back off and not propose).. It’s only the dating stuff and so on that is not allowed..
