Re: What are some of the easiest languages to learn for those who know Urdu?
I learned to read the Punjabi script in one week. The same amount of time it took me to read Hangul. Script in general isn't a problem and you can learn it within a few days!
You are thinking of Hindustani, the language they use in Bollywood movies. But yeah, because of Hindustani, Hindi is the easiest language for us to learn!
Re: What are some of the easiest languages to learn for those who know Urdu?
may be meaning of “vice versa” and its usage is important to know. “Vice Versa” referes to two conditions compared equally in one sentence. It is unfair to use it for a previous paragraph:snooty:
Re: What are some of the easiest languages to learn for those who know Urdu?
The Korean script.
It was appropriate to use vice versa. He was obviously talking about how Hindi borrows words from Urdu, which are of Arabic and Farsi origin and in the same fashion Urdu borrows words from Hindi (Which are of Sanskrit origin).
Re: What are some of the easiest languages to learn for those who know Urdu?
Yes Sanskrit which has proper roots in Hindi (Apart from HIndustani language) it is differernt from urdu so you can’t learn it easily. Script is different dialect is different. Phrases are different.
Re: What are some of the easiest languages to learn for those who know Urdu?
Hindi is the most easiest language. I can say it bcuz I can read and write it (I learnt it very easily) :)
Thank you for proving my point. Now McPendo, have you learned Farsi? Someone who has learned to read and write Farsi please step forward and tell us how "easy" it was for you. LOL

since Lucknow is my home and my Dad was an avid Urdu poet, it was easier for me as i had the luxury of having a vast pool of Faarsii and Arabii vocabulary. i studied Faarsii ONLY in grade 10 and i scored the highest mark. i LOVED Faarsii. unfortunately, i couldn't continue with Faarsii at university level.
anyone who knows Urdu, Farsii is much easier for him/her...Having the working knowledge of Faarsii makes Urdu shaa'irii a cinch/breeze! :)
f*rom vocabulary point of view, you can't tell the difference from the following she'r whether it is an Urdu she'r or a Faarsii she'r:*
**
hazaar jaama_daarii, sad_hazaar baKhiya_garii
tamaam shorish o tamkiiN nisaar-e-be_Khabarii**

no, it's NOT AsGhar GonDvii's she'r...it's actually Hafiz Shirazi's she'r...the matl'a of his Ghazal. i'm including the matl'a, the maqt'a and one she'r of this Ghazal:
**
hazaar jaama_darii, sad_hazaar baKhiya_garii
tamaam shorish o tamkiiN nisaar-e-be-Khabarii
chuuN har Khabar k shuneedam reh-e-ba_Hairat-e-daasht
aziiN sipash man o saaqii wa waz'a be_Khabarii**
AsGhar GonDvii did 'tazmeen' of this musalsal Ghazal and here is the matl'a of that Ghazal...it's one of my all-time favourite:
**
sukoon-e-shorish-e-pinhaaN hai shoGhl-e-jaama_darii
qaraar-e-seena-e-sozaaN hai naala-e-saHarii**
^ Asghar Gondvi-Kia yaad kara diya?
Na main deewana asghar na mujhay shouq e uryani
Koi khenchay liye jata hay meray jeeb o gareeban ko
he is one of my most favourite sho'araa...great poet indeed!
**
"AsGhar", nashaat-e-rooH kaa ik khil gayaa chaman
jumbish huii jo Khaama-e-rangiiN_nigaar ko
AsGhar had several students...among them were Jigar Muradabadi, My Dad and his friend Tufail Ahmad "Shamimi". **his reflections can be found in all of his students.
