Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?
I heard that wasn't much to do in Dallas, thats a major negative. You don't mind the Chicago winters Fraudia?
utd, i would take a cold winter over a hot summer any day.
I cant say I am thrilled about chicago winters, but they are mostly harmless, you have a handful of days that are a pain but those days you go tobaggoning :)
as far as dallas goes, i have tons of family there and am constantly under pressure to move there, but I dunno, the place just seems like a big suburb, does not have the energy of Chicago.

What's the "like" in having a desi free city, or a dislike in having too many desis? Is self hatred so common on Gupshup? Do you think goras say this? Can you imagine a gora saying "Nah.. Dubai sucks, too many goras" or a gori saying "Went to a club in Hong Kong, full of Americans, it sucked because of that". Why not?
dunno man, i love the fact that I am in a city that has many desis, it has many lame desis and many good desis, so you can met people from a similar background who you click with. with a large community comes restaurants, events.
I think as far as desi community stuff goes there are just 6-7 areas in North America that have something going on
NYC
Chicago
Toronto
VA-MD area around baltimore-dc
LA
Bay Area
and possibly Houston
Its just that ppl make big deal about their desi stores and restaurants and then i go there and its utter crap.

For me - less desis less problem. I do like educated moderate desis but walk on Green street or Southall broadway & tell me how many of decent educated moderated desis do you see?

Whaddaya mean possibly? Houston is where its at. None of your Chicago Taxi driver desis here :-P In Tx all the desis are the nice decent kind that you can click with.

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?
And to me I can take any hot day over the cold cold popscicle making chicago winters…they suck bigggg time…I mean I remember my ears almost falling off with the cold…
Worst thing is u have to bundle the kids like with tons of clothes…buckle em up in the car seat…and then when u reach the destination…take the polar bears and then unbuckle em, take off the layers so that they can breathe…
Poor kids and on top of that poor parents too…
And the housing market ,u know Dallas has so much more to offer…and as for the universities…Oh here is the list
SMU..Southern Methodist University…One of the best Universities out there :snooty:
UTD…UNT…UTA…Texas Cristian University,TWU..The list goes on and on…
And did I again mention that the real estate market is sooo good..the brickless..supposedly beautiful Chicago homes r in texas..well mostly bare down minimum here.
DFW is the largest metroplex in USA Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex - Wikipedia
Ok ay now I am done with the pro DFW thing..other then its a perfect place to raise a family…after then I am moving to California:D..where I’ll bring my own home there…:D:D
Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?
Sorry Amber11, DFW sucks big time.
Thank God we didn’t move there. We went to visit and the weather was so muggy, felt like u had stepped into an oven. Can’t imagine living in that weather for the whole summer. Downtown was such a joke.
I don’t really understand peoples’ dislike for living in desi populated areas? I lived in relatively all-white town in Pennsylvania and HATED it. It was way out in the boonies, and there was no life. I felt out of place. Have been living in NY for the last 10 years or so, my current neighborhood is somewhat mixed with well-to-do families. Last neighborhood was fairly populated with desis, but it wasn’t a problem. You socialize with people you click with, I mean how really do desis bother people? I couldn’t imagine a more multicultural setting, each ethnicity feels like it’s their own city.
The only other city I’d consider moving to would be Chicago.
Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?
Oh Yes..hehe:D…We have the 104.9 Radio Salam Namaste…the only 24 hr fm station…Its pretty good actually…
Oh no it doesnt !!!.. …And for downtown…We have Downtownssss…2 for those who dont get the ssss..
And the thing about desisis..Oh yes I do like to mingle with them, the like minded one…its just I dont like em soo close that they r actually checking who is and wat is going on in everyone’s business…Yes!I have had experiences like thata where these desi aunties r like in everyone’s business trying to teach them their set of rules…so no thanks to that!!..I like it that way…
Socially I like the fact that we arrange something with our like minded friends and have get togethers and u know the usuals. The desi places r dispersed rather then having like this one main Devon street or like in NY Jackson Heights…we got too much land here:)…not to say that where ever u guys r is bad or anything…but for us Dallas worked out better then Chicago. I do miss it, its a beautiful city and the museum, its amazing, but needless to say that we r glad we moved. For visiting Chicago/Ny is great, but for living..well we like this city.Again all that is dependent on what you really want from a city you reside in…the pros and cons as to your own personal preferences and needs. For us, we moved because it was more important for us Family wise… and pros far out numbered the cons…
