We're all Sinners

Is it just me, or are muslims fast becoming like Christian fundoos these days who think that everyone is a sinner and that we’re all going to hell unless if we listen and obey our local minister?

Re: We're all Sinners

Some of us have sinned more than others. Hence, the reason at least I'm worried about my fixing myself before it's too late.

Re: We're all Sinners

the Prophet (saw) has said "kullu ibn-e-Adam khtaa'" (every child of Adam is a wrong-doer), hence u cant say its current day muslims who r being sucked into this idea....

P.S. the hadith is incomplete and has a different meaning when seen in full, but its put in half here only for illustrating the point....

Re: We're all Sinners

o, and the "all of us r going to hell" part, then its Quran which says:

Quran 19:71
*And there is not one of you but shall come to it (i.e. hellfire, read previous verses to be sure its hell that is being referred to here); this is an unavoidable decree of your Lord. *

Re: We’re all Sinners

prophets too ?

Re: We're all Sinners

Very amusing point Armughal.

Did you not read about every child is pure and sinless in Islam till puberty when real responsibility is put on his/her shoulder?

Lets not be confused here my friend. Islam is clearly different in this matter than current day christianity.

Re: We’re all Sinners

You guys take the words of Islam so literally…

It means every person will do wrong in his or her lifetime but the Mercy of Allah :swt: will precede His Wrath…

Prophets (pbut) do not fall into the normal category of mortals…They are guided by Allah :swt:…

Re: We're all Sinners

^ they r normal humans, as Quran tells the Prophet Muhammad (saw) to tell to the people "ana bashar mislukum" (i am a mortal human being just like yourselves), similarly feeling hunger and thirst and with same needs and desires that r part of all human beings....

i do not wish to argue on this more....
their deeds and strong adherene to the commands of Allag gave them a higher rank than the rest but in reality they were just as human as any of us....

P.S. the half hadith was only for PCG, the rest of u can silence urselves by reading the full hadith....

Re: We’re all Sinners

I read in T.J. Winter’s translation of one of the books of Imam Ghazali’s Ihya, where Winter mentioned that, on basis of the verse quoted above, some of the scholars believe that even the Prophets shall go to Hell fire, but it will be like visit and a quick round…and not a punishment or anything of that sort.

Allah o Alim…just wanted to share something i had read.

Re: We're all Sinners

some of the schoolars said that what is meant by this ayah is ALSERAT...
because ALSERAT is placed over the hell....... and everyhuman is to cross over it so everyhuman will cross the hell

Re: We’re all Sinners

A han
I disagree to the conclusion drawn from this Ayah. I am sure it this is read in its proper context, it carries a different meaning. I do not agree to this conclusion… may be it refers to the 'Kuffars" or the “Munafiqs”, I am not sure about it …

Again, please post the complete Hadith in order to know what it refers to.

Being a wrong doer is different
Being born as sinner is different…

Please make sure what you mean

Re: We're all Sinners

I do not believe the child in the passage that armughal posted is literally meant to be a baccha but rather all of us human beings..In islam ther eis no such thing as sins of the father upon the child's son or sins being passed down or original sin. We're all born pure and we are resposnible for our behavior at a certain age. Until then we are innocent beings..

Re: We’re all Sinners

Good one.

Re: We're all Sinners

Armughal, you cannot possibly interpret that ayah in the Quran as we're all gonna be thrown in hell. it contradicts hadith, ya know, the hadith you guys are always using to compare the ayahs to?

Can someone post the actual interpretation of that ayah? It goes against all that we are taught actually in Islam.

I would think it does mean something like there is a stage in the afterlife, that to cross over into heaven, you have to go thru hell, but you're not thrown there to suffer.

Not sure about this exactly, but in Islamic school we were taught that there will be one stage where EVERYONE will have to walk across a rope - and underneath it will be hellfire. If you slip and fall, you belong in the hellfire, and if you are meant to go to heaven, you'll cross that rope to the end. And even that angels will help you cross it, if you were really good. Not sure about the authenticity of this though.

Re: We’re all Sinners

i will see you all in hell :frowning:

Re: We’re all Sinners

That is one hadeeth I’ve heard in numerous times in the Jumuah Khutbah and it goes like:

Kullun Bani Adam Al Khataa’oon; wa khair al khataa-eena at tawwaboon

which means: All the children of Adam (human beings) are prone to mistakes but best among such people are those who seek repentance.

Now coming back to the original query: I will make a reference to a surah in Quran, the most beautiful and thought provoking surah, which Companions of the Prophet:saw: used to recite while leaving the company of each other and for which Imam Shafai:rehm: said that even if only this surah would have revealed, it would’ve been enough for the guidance of humanity. The tafseer of it as much as I’ve read, listened, and heard is actually what’s the original poster is inquiring about…

:bism:

1. By Time

2. Verily Man ‘Insaan’ as the original word used] is in loss,

3. Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy.

[Surah Al As’r]

A short tafseer of this surah in urdu can be listened HERE](http://www.brain.net.pk/~aasif/2001/108.rm) along with some other short surahs that are before and after it.

Re: We're all Sinners

YUSUFALI: Then shall We certainly drag out from every sect all those who were worst in obstinate rebellion against (Allah) Most Gracious.
PICKTHAL: Then We shall pluck out from every sect whichever of them was most stubborn in rebellion to the Beneficent.
SHAKIR: Then We will most certainly draw forth from every sect of them him who is most exorbitantly rebellious against the Beneficent Allah.

019.070
YUSUFALI: And certainly We know best those who are most worthy of being burned therein.
PICKTHAL: And surely We are Best Aware of those most worthy to be burned therein.
SHAKIR: Again We do certainly know best those who deserve most to be burned therein.

019.071
YUSUFALI: Not one of you but will pass over it: this is, with thy Lord, a Decree which must be accomplished.
PICKTHAL: There is not one of you but shall approach it. That is a fixed ordinance of thy Lord.
SHAKIR: And there is not one of you but shall come to it; this is an unavoidable decree of your Lord.

019.072
YUSUFALI: But We shall save those who guarded against evil, and We shall leave the wrong-doers therein, (humbled) to their knees.
PICKTHAL: Then We shall rescue those who kept from evil, and leave the evil-doers crouching there.
SHAKIR: And We will deliver those who guarded (against evil), and We will leave the unjust therein on their knees.

The context to me suggests that the burning is for those who Allah knows are worthy to be burnt in the Fire. Those who guard against evil will be saved from the burning. However, there is a verse in the Quran that says if Allah started to punish us for our sins then there wouldnt be living creature left on earth. So in my opinion, yes we are all sinners, but by seeking repentance from Allah for our sins, we can obtain salvation.

bob

Re: We're all Sinners

PCG,

you have a problem with exagerrating anything and everything.. i dont see muslims "these days who think that everyone is a sinner and that we're all going to hell unless if we listen and obey our local minister". Where do you see them?

What i DO see is people with increased awareness of what's wrong and right.. saying something is wrong/haram in islam, does NOT mean that one is destined to hell. In islam, sinning by itself, does not take one outside of Islam, infact the Prophet (saws) said that the zanee, is not a muslim when he's committing zina (so only during that time period). So, if someone says something is wrong, it should be taken as "advice", and not as "ya Allah.. s/he's a freakin fundo and so rigid.. and s/he thinks i'm going to hell!!" Do you disagree that we should all be aware of the allowed and disallowed things in Islam, and if there are any attatched punishments/rewards?

Re: We're all Sinners

ammarr,

infact the Prophet (saws) said that the zanee, is not a muslim when he's committing zin

Do you have the arabic text for this hadiths? Can you find it online somewhere. I believe the words are 'he is not a believer' ... not that he is not a Muslim. Big difference.
