Prophet Muhammad(saw) arranged that marriage with very least resources. It was not that difficult for him(saw) to throw grand wedding event, but he(saw) adopted simplicity. So yes, in that sense it is weird for us but if we learn hidden message then it would no longer weird.

But that does not make it weird at all. Most marriages were simple and without any extravegance in holy prophet pbuh time.

Not really, I've been to plenty American/gora weddings that put our Indo/Pak weddings to shame...it's all about the $$$$ and who has it/willing to spend it

You know you don't have to throw in a religious reference in every thread. OP asked of a weird marriage so not even wedding. A simple wedding is definitely a really good thing but still doesn't fit this thread.
