No, its not a one way street.

I just think its been too long…ABCD’s is such an old term. People are not confused here about their identities. The ones who believe so want us to fit neatly into THEIR description or opinion of what we should be like. And that’s not going to happen, ever…its not required to happen. That’s the American part of American Desi.

The Confused part of ABCD is relative…people who believe that we have identity issues are pretending as if they have a better understanding of what American Desis should be like. They don’t. There’s no definition of American Desi that we’re failing. Pakistanis here are not supposed to be anything like Pakistanis in Pakistan. Its not confusion…its an active choice to be whatever it is we want. Because we can.

Agreed with everything you have said. So you guys aren’t American Desis. You are just good old fashioned Americans.

I use the term ABCD as it is best used to describe the predicament immigrant families are in, because at the end of the day the Parents are Pakistani. The kids are not. They have different norms and values. But they are forced in many ways to adhere to the values of the motherland, which are foriegn and many times make no sense.
