Weight loss routine before wedding

I know this thread should be health & fitness but i want the replies to be more specific from brides so this seems to be a more suitable place.

I have 1.5 months to my brother’s wedding & a few months later my own. So i have to lose weight just quick quick & quick! But my job gives me no time to exercise so i take out time during work. Also, i cannot live without eating and have never ever been able to follow a diet.

Weight: 66 kg (approx 150 lbs)
BMI: 25.8 (over the line)
Height: 5 feet, 3 inches

So now this is what i am doing right now.

8:30 a.m.: Breakfast of Sandwich or shami (around 200 calories breakfast)

10:30 a.m.: Black Tea with 1 tea spoon sugar

12:45 p.m.: 15 minutes rigorous yoga/aerobics including lunges,stretches etc

1:10 p.m.: Proper heavy lunch with a sandwich, salad, soup & any other dish (almost a 700 - 800 calories lunch)

1:30 p.m.: Green Tea with 1 teaspoon sugar

3:00 p.m.: Green Tea with 1 tea spoon sugar

8:00p.m.: 1 roti with salan dinner

Do you think with this routine with some exercise, more sitting, eating almost 1300-1400 calories, 2 cups of green tea, i can come to a 60kg (drop 6 kgs) in 1.5 months?

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

May I be brutal and suggest you drop all carbs for the next 6 weeks? you will lose more than you can imagine. and your stomach will be concave!!
no sugar, no bread, no rice, no shami (they put dahl in it). Lots of kebabs, lots of vegies excluding roots, olives, avocados, cheese, you can eat as much as you like
and skip the lunges etc just walk very fast, fast enough to be breathless for you.
you will drop it all very quick but you wont realise until 10 days or so. oh and eat lots of parsley cos you will have stinky atkins breath.

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

Thanks Sera! I have tried doing that many times but i am unable to satisfy myself with this-that-the-other instead of the basic roti or chawal. So i thought of resolving to safer options like no bread in breakfast just a single shami & milk. For the sandwich i have at lunch, i take brown bread & rarely roti. I do sometimes take rice for lunch. Dinner i do take a roti. You are actually right with suggesting no carbs but that i am able to follow for maximim 1-2 days, its aweful how i am in love with the desi foods and the basic roti-chawal formulas!

I have tried adding other subsitutes by which i can have lesser intake of roti/chawak. I have soups & salads at lunch that fill me up and i tend to have very less of the other foods, although i do have them.

Do you think the 15-20 minutes rigorous exercise will actually help tone down? I also have a stationery cycle at home, should i start using it too?

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

If you cant cut down on carbs start using that cycling machine for atleast 30 mins everyday. You can easily drop weight if you cut down on carbs but oh well. Start having soups and salads more. This is so typical I know but it worksssssss!! Cut out sugar and add Candrel or anyother low-sweet thingie.

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

Join a gym. No matter what weight you are and i dont knw how much weight u wl be able to drop BUT you will definately get a much better body by working out at a proper gym with proper machines n a proper plan. Diet is also very important but it wl only help loose the weight (cud very well be the mass loss too) so you have to be careful as you dont wanna loose the weight but end up flabby.

You have around 4-5 months, you should be able to loose 10 kgs in this time and get toned at the same time. So join a gym asap.

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

Definately the best way to lose it! this is what i am currently on right now! the first week or 2 is HELL! BUT when you start to see the difference it is motivation enough. And when you start to lose it you can be occasionally naughty with a half a roti...or something like that. I found it soooo hard to exercise on this diet. i couldnt do it. i'd feel faint.

I can sympathise with you Daffy...i'm 5'4...its so hard to maintain a weight that is ok.!

Green tea is a godsend! i also drink coffee...not really in the diet BUT fills you up!

AND drink LOAAAAAAAAAADS of water! good for your skin too!

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

drink curly parsley tea, it does WONDERS for your skin. An arab beautician actually told me this when I complimented her on her skin! You will notice a fresh glow within a few days. Drink it 3-4 times a day. When I am in a hurry I even drink it room temp. Just steep a kettle of it for the whole day:)

As for weight loss, the best thing that worked for me was the south beach diet. Which is basically no carbs, NONE! Not even carrots! You cant really work out on it though but you can try toning exercises.

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

^ Diets don't work - you might end up binging cuz you feel restricted.
Definitely don't do a no-carb diet (I know loadz of girls who do) because: a) its not healthy, b) you will gain weight win you start eating carbs again (i.e. after wedding), c) serious constipation issues I'm sure

Just eat healthy and in moderation:
- Try limiting your sugar: green tea is pretty good without sugar - you can start by maybe reducing the sugar for each cup: You take 1 tspn right now, reduce it to 3/4... then to 1/2 (if you can :))
- Try not to eat carbs for dinner - when you have carbs in the morning/lunch, your body has the entire day to digest and burn it. Dinner should be your smallest meal of the day - especially if you eat dinner and sleep soon after
- Try to eat dinner atleast 2 hours before you sleep so your body has enough time to breakdown the food
- Lots of water :)
- I know you don't have time cuz of work - but try walking for 30 mins if you can.
- Eat lean meats - "salan" tends to be drenched in oil. Maybe have grilled chicken, fish, etc with veggies or salad for dinner instead of roti + salan

On a side note, you can have oatmeal or something for breakfast - its healthy and super filling. Make sure to drink lots of water to keep yourself hydrated and often when we're thirsty, we THINK we're hungry and eat :P
Don't forget fruits! Helps your skin and is healthy

Sorry if I'm ranting! I took nutrition classes!

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

some people claim that toxins in your body can cause weight gain... you are doing good by drinking the green tea, but maybe at some point do a colon cleansing? It can be done naturally. It will NOT make you loose weight if you do it the healthy way, but it can make your stomache look flatter and less bloated, one just feels healthier afterwards.

As soon as you wake up - drink or eat something ..it kick starts your metabolism early on in the day. Have a nicer and bigger breakfast but as others have said, maybe give up carbs for dinner.

also - instead of having 3 meals a day, cut them down (minus breakfast) and just have small little meals throughout the day. It is supposed to be healthier and said to help weight loss.

If you get hungry, eat fruit and drink water!

Incorporate salads into your meals.... they are filling but healthy. Replace that roti with a salad! But remember do not use any dressing!! That kills the point of eating a salad. Use a lemon pepper seasoning instead!

Everything the above poster said is correct... i am just expanding or thinking of anything else. My dad is a doctor and this is the advice he is constantly giving family members when they ask for advice on loosing weight.

And yes - baked meats is better than salan! If you make kabobs - make sure it is made with lean meat ... 99% fat gone.

You may have to make your own dinners and eat a different meal than everything else - but the good news is that baking meat and making a salad is easy and fast :p

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

I started this diet called the "reverse diet" and I swear to you it works. It is not a miracle diet. It takes time, but you will start to see a difference.

In the morning, eat your biggest meal. Eat a huge breakfast (I just eat dinner at this time - chawal/roti, and whatever else!) and I usually will have fruit or something after an hour. I always save about 1/4 of my breakfast to eat at lunch. I eat this usually at about 9:30 when I get to work. I am usually not hungry again until about 1:30 - 2. And at that time I eat the 1/4 of my breakfast that I saved, with more fruit. In the afternoon, I eat another piece of fruit, or carrots/celery. When I get home from work, around 5:30-6, I eat something small. Sometimes I eat a bowl of cereal (not the sugary cereal - usually cheerios or special K), or I eat 1/2 cup chawal with salan, or small roti with salan. but I dont eat after 6:30. I also try to walk for 30-45 minutes a day. One week, I lost 7lbs, and another week I lost 3lbs....I have kind of gone off the diet the last 2 weeks, so I havent lost anything else, but I havent gained anything back yet either. But I also do some weight training exercise (sit ups, lunges, push ups)

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

oh yah, I also drink 2.5 litres of water during the day.

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

is my diet like ok? pleaseee help me out girls, and one more thing are 2 or 3 cups of green tea enough???

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

Guys - look at your food groups.

calcium - you're taking milk. Milk is full of fat. Have a calcium tablet or have som low fat yoghurt
NO sugar at all. Go green tea, black tea, black coffee whatever As much as you want. Too much will give you headaches anyway so you'll stop. NO SUGAR! No fruit juice, no fruit (its all sugar) You get plenty of residual sugar in your raw vegies (tomatoes, onions, beans etc)

Fill up on protein. Eat meat, have lots of eggs, chicken, fish, (whats wrong with tuna salad) olive oil should be the key to any dressing. Lemon juice good too.

Yes exercise - as everyone says it will tone you , maybe help you drop some weight, but most importantly feel fit and body conscious.

Can I again say drop the rice/ bread/ nan/ dahl/papadams/potatos. The reason you feel hungry without these is because you are retraining your body to derive energy from slow release foods (protein) and all that jiggly body fat you're trying to shed.
If you must have carbs have small wafer biscuits or small piece of toast early in the day so that you can burn it off.

If you eat tonnes of vegies, you will still get your food groups happening. Yummy greens, everything except vegies that grow below the ground. Avocados are very filling.

If you feel constipated have some bran with a big glass of water every morning. It will fill you up and yet help you dump some unecessary stuff in your tummy.

Sorry guys but it depends how serious you are. You want results you gotta get serious.

I'll shut up now.

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

**Nidask **- Is Canderel safe to use? Because tea without that 1 tea spoon of sugar will be an impossiblity to drink so if i go for Canderel will that avoid the extra calories?

**Maham **- Gym is definitely the best option, the problem is i dont have time for it since i have 6 working days and i get back home late around 8:00 p.m., after that its pretty difficult. I do have the abrocket equipment which is for flattening stomach ( http://www.squidoo.com/AbRocketReview) and a stationery cycle as well. Although, they are not the best subsitutes for a gym but maybe they will help a bit if i try and accomodate 30 minutes routine some how?

fairywings85 - i am thinking of increasing the 2 cup green tea to 3 cups & removing the black tea completely. Maybe that can help a bit more.

MissSn - I can work with reducing sugar or replacing it with canderel, definitely some thing i can try out. Also, i already have dinner 2-3 hours before i sleep, normally the gap is 2.5 - 3 hours for sure. As for water, yes i totally agree this is one area i am so pathetic at! I forcefully, after reminding myself many times, end up drinking only 4-5 glasses and that too forcefully even though i am carrying a water bottle all the time. I will try and increase this too.

PunjabiRose - Apologies for my lack of knowledge, but is colon cleansing safe enough? Could there be any side effects to it?

This is what i read on wiki
*"**Complications and risks
The human body naturally removes waste material, and colon cleansing is not necessary except preparatory to a colonoscopy.[4][14] Colon cleansing may disrupt the balance between bacteria and natural chemicals in the bowel, and may interfere with the colon’s ability to shed dead cells.[15]

Other rare but serious complications include gastrointestinal perforation from improper insertion,[16][17] and amoebic infection from poorly sterilised equipment.[18] Some colon cleansing regimens disrupt fluid and electrolyte balance which may lead to dehydration and salt depletion, whilst repeated or excessive cleansing programs can lead to anemia and malnutrition.[14] Excessive use of enemas has also been associated with cardiac problems such as heart failure,[14] and heart attacks related to electrolyte imbalances when used with coffee.[19] The frequent use of enemas or other colon cleansing tools may lead to dependence and an inability to defecate without assistance or withdrawal symptoms.[2][5]

Herbs that are consumed for colon cleansing and taken as oral preparations may also interfere with drug absorption and effectiveness of prescription drugs.[5]"***

Nabz - I dont know i had a big misconception that 1 tea spoon sugar did not have many calories, i even searched on google and got 15-20 kcal result. (Calories in 1 teaspoon sugar)

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

I have a question from every one who suggested a LOW or NO-carb diet.

Is this okay?

A glass of water as soon as i wake up

Breakfast: Boiled egg & milk

Lunch: These are the options we have for lunch at work, what should i eat?

Brown bread sandwich - maybe grilled chicken, chicken steak etc
Soups - Hot & Sour, Chicken corn, Szechuan, mexican
Salads - Russian Salad, Chicken corn salad, other creamy-veges/fruit salads
Herbs Baked potatoes
Chowmein
Rice & a Chinese Chicken Dish
Bpiled potatoes with mayo
Desi food like biryani, shami kabab, nihari, haleem, keema, palak etc.
Sweet dish

The menu keeps changing everyday but we do have a desi menu, a chinese menu and a snacks menu everyday and their dishes keep changing. If i need to go for low-carb what should i go for? Salan without roti? Snacks meal (Soup/Salad) without brown bread sandwich? I dont have the sweet dish at all.

Dinner - What if i just have 2 chicken shami kababs and no roti?

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

:hmmm: since im also getting married after 3 months n im also planning for diet as well. . .

i have did 6 months before n i got my desired figure :sheen:

so let me share u my diet:

Morning: Mug / Glass of Milk at the start of day (6:30 am)
2 slices wd half fry egg (fry in less oil or butter) with green tea (without sugar) (8 am)
1 boil egg wd tea (without sugar n no canderal) (10 am)

Lunch: Chicken sandwich (without mayonnaise) or salad n yogurt or take 2 glass of fresh juices (1 pm)

Afternoon: Cup of tea (without sugar) or green tea without sugar (3:30 pm)

Dinner: 1 plate of boiled rice with salan (remove oil) or 1 roti with salan

Half an hour exercise , just heavy walk / run (if possible)

Remember 1 thing, durng dieting most of the persons loose their complexion and looks tired n ill , so always take proper dinner (means roti or boil rice), also avoid sweets n sugar completely. . . if u cant then then dnt take tea. . . but u have to avoid sugar. . . within a month u will have a proper figure  dont go for fast food and BBQ . . . take proper rest. . . . milk is also an important for ur health n skin . . .

Avoid taking proper food or full appetite at lunch time. . . it will be good if u just take fresh juices at lunch time. . .

GOOD LUCK

Re: Weight loss routine before wedding

sure. but where are the vegetables in all of this. you need some eggplant/ bhindi/ jalfrezi is a good style. or stir fry. no thick creamy sauces.

its sounding tough. i think you might need to just do your best and im sure you'll get results anyway because you will be just cutting down so much from your existing levels of carbs?

Please dont hate me
