Weddings and culture

I love to go to weddings and what I have notice people from different culture have different Rasam o Rawaj.

In Sindhi weddings our famous Rasam is laaoo’n which is done after dinner and before everyone leave,

Have you ever seen/gave laaoo’n ?and please share what’s your rasam o Rawaj on weddings?

Re: Weddings and culture

Yes, I saw it long time ago in one Sindhi wedding, they placed a mirror between them, and then collide the heads of dulha dulhan. :hehe:

Re: Weddings and culture

I did that. In some cases, cousins of the groom collide heads with force (jaan boojh ke) and the doolha who is naturally super-sensitive about dulhan on that day gave looks saying ‘ihtiyaat se sheesha hai’ :rotfl:

Re: Weddings and culture

Placing mirror is called ‘Aarsi e mashaf’ and common in Hyderabadi and other communities too

Re: Weddings and culture

ha ha. it would time of taking all the *badlas *of life. :D

Re: Weddings and culture

STA bhai would u mind sharing your rasmo Rawaj? :hmmm:

Re: Weddings and culture

hum mahajiron main aisee rasm nahi hoti. Jab dulha ke shakal altaf bhai jaisee ho tou behtar hai jitni dair main dulhan dekhe, ootna behtar hai. rukhasti se pehlay khula kee darkhwast koi achcha shugan nahi

Re: Weddings and culture

:rotfl: But Altaf Bhai used to be handsome in his childhood… ye to unko bachpan main tez bukhar aur kali kahnsi hui, tabhi thoRi maar kha gae

Mayon:
Yellow dress and enclose girl in one room, she is not supposed to do any thing. now a days, it is limited to 3 day probation but it depends from family to family
Ubtan:
Girl is ubtanfied by close female relative of girl, this happen during mayon. But I heard that it is not limited to mayon, they can start it befor mayon. Ubtan helps to glow the skin of girl.
**Mehndi: **
Most families prefer combined mehndi. Girl usually sit on stage and then people of groom side come and feed mithai, and also do some sadqa by revolving money on bride head.
Groom is also go through same process, but sisters and cousins of bride usually hold the finger of groom while applying henna in the holding finger, and also demands the money.

Wedding Day:
Brother of bride asked money before groom step out his feet from car.
During rukhsati, brother of bride hold the quran over bride head and take her to groom’s car while bride still keep her rona dhona during walking to her way to car.

Once bride reached to groom’s home, now rasams of monh dekhai starts. All the close relative of groom give gifts to bride and also feed kheer.
once they are done with monh dekhai, now sisters of groom do some tamasha, and stop groom to enter his room. They asked money, once all matter settle down, they can proceed to enter in room.

**Valima: **
no rasams, it is just a reception given by guy’s side.

Choonthi:
Invitation is given by bride’s family, all close relatives of groom are invited, sisters of bride take the shoes of groom and ask money.
**
Kheer:**
This is also a rasm, when bahu enter into kitche, she was supposed to make some meetha, which is usally kheer. she starts her culinary/cooking skill by making meetha.

Re: Weddings and culture

Re: Weddings and culture

Hahahahah :omg:

Wesey throwing rice behind, mouhajiro Ki rasam hai na ? :hmmm:

Re: Weddings and culture

Its also common in Punjabis. I think many of the rasams which involve food belong to Agricultural areas like Punjab

Re: Weddings and culture

^ I think it's an Indian rasam Thats why I said mohajirs (migrate from India to Pakistan)

Indians movies Mai yeh rasam zyada dikhaii jati hai.

Re: Weddings and culture

nahi, hamary han rice phenkay nahi jatay. balkay khanay main istemal hotay hian. abhi tak aasi rasam main nay to nahi dekhi.

I had never seen rasam of throwing rice in any indian Muslim's wedding.
Aur yeh mirror wali rasam ko jalwa kehte hai aur mayoon ki rasam ko manje pe baithna kehte hain.

Re: Weddings and culture
