One of the Rasm is Jaimaal, in which both dulha dulhan put garlands on each other, in this dulha's mother will instruct him not to bow as the one who bows becomes joru ka ghulam:D

Re: Weddings and culture
Thats not throwing! That is to signify khaane ke baarish in the girl’s maika. Traditionally, girls are considered to be ghar ki Lakshmi. And when she leaves her parents house, she prays to god that may her maika be never short of food and prosperity. This is a very significant Indian custom. And that rice is not thrown away. It is collected later on, washed, and cooked.
Re: Weddings and culture
I love to go to weddings and what I have notice people from different culture have different Rasam o Rawaj.
In Sindhi weddings our famous Rasam is laaoo'n which is done after dinner and before everyone leave,
Have you ever seen/gave laaoo'n ?and please share what's your rasam o Rawaj on weddings?
We have this custom in South India too, but we see the reflection of the groom and bride in water and not in a mirror. Again, the reason for this is, there were no photographs in pehley ka zamaana. This was a way to show the bride and groom are now together in one frame. Also, this is the first time that a groom and a bride see their reflection together as a couple for the first time.

What is story of sandoor ?
Re: Weddings and culture
What is story of sandoor ?
that must got roots in Hinduism and not related to culture, as we don't see women belonging to other faiths having Sindoor. Might be related to the lady who followed yamraaj and got her husband alive again. I think her name was Sawitri.

Boht jald.. but now this laon concept is not followed in many families. Even they used to apply mehndi (not designs) on grooms hands and feet and that remained with him for few weeks letting everyone know about his latest adventure :D But again, its not common now
