In response to the original post, do not go overboard and buy too many formal wear outfits. I agree with 10-15 being enough. In the old days, when people made ek sau ek (101) outfits for the girl, fashion would not change. That same dumpy zari shalwar kameez would be worn forever. Nowadays, the fashions are changing so fast. One minute you have short shirts, then long, straight pants, then patialas, etc. You don't want your desi wardrobe to be wasted and out of fashion after two years. You can always add more later.
