Re: Wedding rasams..
Thats a hindu rasam isn’t it…?
Only seen it in films though so don’t quote me on it…doesn’t the bride do that and say something at the same time..like about the food that her father gave her etc???![]()
Re: Wedding rasams..
Hi everyone...I truly believe that these rasms are all cultural and we do that to honour the daughters of our family and to show them thrugh these rasms that we care for them. I did not do any work after my mayoon and my family made it specail for me thinking that I should enjoy my last days at my paents house without having to think about my chores. Also I took a couple of days off from work to stay at home and spend time with my family. Was not leavign house for shopping and stressful stuff. just going out with friends, cuzins & family.
As far as mayon is concerned. I had my gana on for 3 days and wore simple clothes. Will shower every mornign but I would put a little bit oil or somethign in my hair so it looked messy : )
We did most of the rasms and even had quran on my head and did again all teh same for my sistare's weddign. We did it because we all wanted to and not because we HAD to. It was a lot of fun and the sweet rasms made the wedding very beautiful.
When I was doing the asme rasms for my sister's weddign , it was very emotional for me as I was thinking about my time and how hard it was for me to leave my parents. My mom was sobbing too : )
My brother in law..even printed fake dollar bills with his own picture on it, that cracked everybody up. It was soooo much fun....
I will try and fing some pictures to post.
Re: Wedding rasams..
I agree that all these rasams make for a bit of fun at the wedding…before the wedding and even after the wedding…
We didn’t necessarily have ALL these rasams…but even now people comment that the last wedding that they truly had fun at was ours (from recent family weddings)
And I think for all us married women/girls…every wedding you are closely involved in after your own..tends to be very emotional as it reminds of your time…I know that was the case for me especially recently at my devar’s nikaah..I CRIED buckets!!!![]()
Re: Wedding rasams..
^ Yeah..beforehand it’s like.. "meri baaree kab aye gi?

Re: Wedding rasams..
Mayoun may be a Hindu custom that Muslims adopted, but Mehndi isnt. It always bothers me when people claim it is.
Mehndi itself originated in the Middle East, and was brought to India by the Muslims. As for the actual ceremony that we do in Pakistan, if you ever read a description of a traditional Turkish wedding, you’ll see that they do the exact same rasam…the groom’s family brings fancy trays of mehndi decorated with candles to the bride’s house, the bride sits with a ghunghat, and the women take turns putting a little bit of mehndi on her palms. Chances are the rasam came into our culture with the Central Asian sultans, not the Hindus.
And as for doodh pillai, that was done at the Prophet’s wedding to Bibi Ayesha.
Re: Wedding rasams..
