Iโve been to a lecture on wedding by almaghrib in edinburgh (it was totally awesome)
Well the Sheikh said that when Prophet Muhammed (saw) got married, that night he would meet his wife and he would put his hand on her head and recite a certain dua (I shall try to find out what it is and post it, if any of you guys know please feel free to post it yourselves )
He would then share a date and a glass of milk with his wife-NOTE Share, ie from same glass. They would then read their namaaz together and sleep and then wake up to read their tahajjud together.
Iโm sure there may have been something else -like a present or something, but I canโt remember what exactly, what I really wanted to get across was the dua. I donโt think many of us know about that (I def didnโt know), I totally want my hubby to be to do that dua as well. (I think my dad said there is also a dua that the girl reads, I thought Iโll learn that by heart closer to my wedding).

Recite:
ุงููููููู ูู ุฅููููู ุฃูุณูุฃููููู ุฎูููุฑูููุง ููุฎูููุฑู ู ูุง ุฌูุจูููุชูููุง ุนููููููู ููุฃูุนููุฐู ุจููู ู ููู ุดูุฑููููุง ููุดููุฑูู ู ูุง ุฌูุจูููุชูููุง ุนููููููู
"O Allah, I seek the good in it from You and the goodness in the habit and character in her and seek refuge in You from her evil habits and character".
Note: Recite the above dua whilst holding the forehead of the bride for Barakaat (blessings).

Congratulating the bridegroom
Recite:
ุจูุงุฑููู ุงูููููู ูููู ููุจูุงุฑููู ุนูููููููู ูุง ููุฌูู ูุนู ุจูููููููู ูุง ููู ุฎูููุฑู
"May Allah grant you Barakaat (blessings) and descend His blessings on both of you and keep you united".

Intention of having relation with wife
Recite:
ุจูุณูู ู ุงููููููู ุงููููููู ูู ุฌููููุจูููุง ุงูุดููููุทูุงูู ููุฌููููุจู ุงูุดููููุทูุงูู ู ูุง ุฑูุฒูููุชูููุง
"I am having relations in the name of Allah. O Allah save us from Satan and keep him away from the children You grant us". The child that is born after the recitation of this dua will never be harmed by Satan.
(Bukhari, Muslim)
Note: This dua must be read for if Allah's name is not taken, the Satan's sperm enters with the man's (As in marginal notes of Hisnul Hasin)
Also I have some islamic lectures on marriage and such if anyone wants :)
I had heard of this dua, but hubby never read it... we did pray two rakat nafil together and then he read out some everyday duas, i was incharge of saying Ameen :)

^ we did the same, and then hubby turned around and said, now you say some dua's i felt really awkward, and was like well mine are same as yours!!
People don't even take a break do offer their namaz during wedding events anymore...yeh dua toh door ki baat hai. That brings me to the question that are the bride and groom exempt from their namaz at their wedding? *hoping for some diss-kaaaa-shin.: :D

usually baraat leave for hall after isha.. so there is no point of missing prayer..
i noticed that previously in a lot of pakistani weddings i went to, there was no break for namaz. These days, Alhumdulillah, its getting better and some weddings taht I do attend to have namaz breaks. Either way I still manage find a place to pray.
In Bengali weddings, most of the weddings that I have been to do have a namaz break.
Lucky for me, on my wedding , the masjid was right next to the hall, so that was convenient.
Hubby and I basically did the 2 rakahs and the duas as well. It was a nice start to a new beginning together.
niks...I think I prayed Asr before I left for the hall. I didn't end up praying Maghrib at the hall. Hubby went tot he masjid to pray, and when I was alone, my family decided to take pics with me. I did pray both magrib and isha when we came home for the dhood pilai thing.
There is no excuse to miss salaat, weather it's your wedding or not. I've noticed that alhumdulillah now people have began to have prayer calls and set up at wedding, which is great
