You forgot the 4th option; Rabia Khan Yasir.
Re: Wedding & Name change!
I didnt change mine cos i dont believe islam encourages the change. To the OP though, if i did change it, id take my hubby’s first name only cos his last name is his dad’s name and it’d be weird having that as part of my name. lol. hope that made sense!
Re: Wedding & Name change!
I don't think I'd change mine at all, maybe add his towards the end. But if someone was to,shouldn't you be taking his last name? Ismn't that what family name is? I find it very odd when some of my cousins have their Dad's first name as their last name like "Arif Ali - son= Bilal Arif's son= Abdullah Bilal" I mean how are you ever supposed to have a family tree if you keep doing that.
Re: Wedding & Name change!
I don't think I'll change mine either--- too much of a hassle to fill out all the paper work.
Re: Wedding & Name change!
I didn’t change mine, but only out of laziness. ![]()
Also, it depends from family to family…in my in laws, the kids ntake the fathers first name as their last name. So all of my husband’s brothers’ kids have different last names
And in my own family, I have seen peopple who just tack on totally differnet names…just because it sounds nice ![]()
Re: Wedding & Name change!
Add his name in third place
Re: Wedding & Name change!
What are the kids last names suppose to be...if lets say you take the husbands first name?
Would they take his first name as well?
Re: Wedding & Name change!
I didn't change my name because ... i didn't want to/there is no need to.
My kids will take their fathers last name.
Re: Wedding & Name change!
Option 5: Rabia Khan Shahid. Keep your own first and surname, but add his surname at the end. That's how I would arrange my post-wedding name.
Re: Wedding & Name change!
I will def. add on my husband’s last name and although I was totally opposed to it all my life (teenage/feminist angst, heh), but now I actually want to. I think it’s romantic
and although my dad made it very clear that he doesn’t want me to change my surname, I totally will! My fiance really wanted me to, not because of any backward reason but simply because he is a hopeless romantic so that being said, I’d be Rabia Yasir or maaaaaybe what SummerLover said^^ Rabia Khan Shahid.
Re: Wedding & Name change!
I don't agree with changing one's maiden name at all as its one's identity. The last name is an indication of the father of the person and represents the person’s lineage. Since there is no blood relationship between the husband and wife, it is better not to take his last name as if she is part of the same lineage.
May Allah keep every husband and wife happy but what happens if she gets divorced, or her husband dies, and she marries another man? Will she keep changing her name every time she marries another man? To me, it makes no sense at all.
Re: Wedding & Name change!
Who did not, it totally fine. Even i haven’t changed my name ![]()
Yes, Islamically you are not suppose to do so…
Re: Wedding & Name change!

Ofcourse, it can Rabia Khan Yasir.

Thats what i think too.
Re: Wedding & Name change!
Paper work is the main thing that is bothering me… Lets see If i’ll ever change.
All the ladies in my family took their husband’s name as their surname. And kids take their father’s first name as Sara said.
