The key to success is not MONEY or richness...its the compability, chemistry and most of all.. understanding between the two!
The most important factor..however, could be that there can never be two HEADS of the State or TWO Generals commanding the Forces as their TOP boss....it has to be ONE!!! therefore...after milaad, dholki, mehendi, halla gulla, rukhsati and valima....the real life starts where of the two ONE has to be a Major is the other one a Colonel.
Naaaa.....MONEY, RICHNESS etc...are not the prime condition for a successful married life. KHUDA'WAND is uttnaa hee mangow jo zindagi araam se guzaray.......
BTW....my rich buddy...about whom I talked earlier...is thrice divorced with five children...three daughters and two sons! So you can well imagine how "happy" he is and his three formers must be!!!

WOW!!! i had no idea people spent that much on gifts! 580,000 worth of stuff?????????!!!! holy crap. i see his point though about the money, however, he could have made a donation to a charity instead or sponsored thousands of kids. oh well, to each their own.
I don't see why everyone is so shocked by these figures. Virtually every country is going to a handful of fabulously wealthy families who can afford all sorts of extravagances. I'm sure HSY and Faiza Samee know their clientele well, and price their clothing accordingly. If you consider how western designer-wear is priced, I don't think their price tags are all that ridiculous...if you were to walk into a top tier designer boutique in the US (Vera Wang, Badgley Mischka, Reem Acra, etc) an average off the rack wedding dress would easily cost $5,000-$6,000 (Rs. 300,000-375,000). If you were to go into these designers' ateliers and have a custom couture gown made specifically for you, it's going to cost at least $20,000 (Rs. 1,250,000)...and from there, the sky's the limit. If any of you saw Donald Trump's latest wife's wedding dress, it was worth over $150,000...and was actually pretty ugly too....

^ valid points, but its still pretty shocking to me- i just wouldn't spend that much on a dress no matter where its made.

Not to mention western dresses are NEVER owrn again...at least in pak, its culturally acceptable to wear a dress again..whether someone does or doesnt is a personal choice

My friend got engaged recently and her dress was from HSY ( a personal fav for years!) But the dress has nothing spectacular! In the magazine it looks stunning! But neither the material was of great quality nor the work/"kaam"!

There's a new hotel, Ramada Plaza Karachi, it's near the airport, only been open a year but it is AMAZING. The wedding hall is very nice, and the outside wedding lawns are huge and beautiful. I think you can also have a mehndi or party by the poolside which is the best poolside I have seen from all the hotels in Karachi. I think I'm going to have my mehndi and shaadi there in August 08 and valima in ISB in Serena hotel. Excited!

of all the biggy beauty parlours in karachi being in clifton/ defense/ zamzama... has anyone here had these artists come to their place and do their bridal makeup? coz there are some ppl who live like 2 hours away from such places (coz of the traffic!!!) so if anyone has, plz do share details as to who it was, how much they charged etc etc... and plz, only female makeup artists :)

Akif Ilyas does great model-makeovers and makeup don't know abt his bridals...he's trained by Khawar Riaz, i'm assuming his bridals wud be fab as well.
