Hi,
I live in California and will be getting married soon. I know its too soon but I am already going hyper thinking about the perfect dress and the perfect jewellery and the perfect makeup. We dont have any desi salons around the area I live, so I was thinking of getting my makeup done by MAC or any other local salon that we have here. I was thinking to take a few pictures to the makeup artist to give her an idea what kind of makeup is expected. I want my eye makeup to be more dramatic like the way I see on pakistani brides. There is a show on GEO tv Saj Dhaj, they sometimes show beautiful bridal makeup with shimmery eye shadows. I couldnt find any close up picture of eyemake here in the wedding section of this forum, so could you please guide me to a website where they show bridal makeup or post any pictures. I really want to have a few pictures before I can decide what to show the makeup artist.
I Bought my wedding day dress which is maroon color with white work and stones on it, so the makeup should probably compliment with my dress??
I know this is yet another thread on bridal makeup and another hyper bride-to-be, but I am just going crazy thinking about all this..
Queenbee, what i did was take my dress and show it to the girls at the MAC counter. One of the girls then did my trial as to what she thought would compliment the dress and i was able to approve/disapprove it. Be very vocal as to what you want but look at what she does first. Most of the times, they are the experts and know what will look good on you. You can then ask her to alter what you are not happy with. Dont hesitate to speak up if you dont like a certain thing.
Just to clarify, i have a whole lot of desi salons in my area but i wanted something different than the traditional desi style makeup and hence i went to the MAC counter. So be prepared to have a slightly different look than the usual desi style makeup.
Should I just go to the MAC counter and show them my duppata maybe, discuss with them the look and everything and fix an appointment? those of you who done makeup from MAC can you tell me if I have to buy their product if they do my makeup? Also, I was wondering if you have done it at their store, isnt it a little too crowdy having your makeup done in a store wearing your wedding day outfit and looking all dressy? I dont know...
Right now for me MAC is the only option, maybe I can talk to the local salons too, see if they can do some trendy makeup.. I dont want a very very natural look, but I also dont want piles of makeup on.. I am so confused right now.
QueenBee,
I went for a trial at MAC for my wedding makeup, and they didn't charge me anything for it since I bought a few of the products. But I think their policy is that if you buy a product (or many!), they won't charge you. Also, yes it is crowded getting your makeup done in front of mall goers, but if you do decide to go with them, you could wear your kameez and then have jeans on so you won't have to go walking around through the mall in your gharara/sharara.
Also, the makeup turns out lovely (especially the eyes). They don't make you look ghostly white looking like you have pounds of spackle on either. My suggestion is that you bring in a couple of pictures to show them, as well as your dupatta, or shirt, or something that they can actually see the color of your jora with. Once they know what kind of look you have in mind, they do an awesome job.
I decided not to go with them since I wanted just one person who could do my hair and makeup on the site of the wedding. If you really like the makeup but don't want to go to the MAC counter on your wedding day, you could also ask the makeup artist if they could come and do your makeup onsite. They will charge you an independent rate if you decide to do this. I had one friend who hired the makeup artist, and she just paid for transportation, plus hourly rate.
yes its so hard....i loked and looked and finally had to settle on a local place. what i did was pick out my own makeup i thought would match and have them apply it....overall i was ok w. my makeup but not thrilled its so hard to describe to gora's how makeup shoudl be because they do suble and have no idea about lashes, etc....
tell them u want more model makeup and want it to stand out ...id get an indian bridal mag and show them all the models and the makeup u like that helped out my girls a lot.
Queenbee, you can get a trial there at the store and buy a coupl eof products. I have asked one of the girls who does free lancing to come and do my makeup at home. She is charging an arm and a leg for the makup only but i really like her work.
Desi salons in Chicago charge 150 for the whole works, dupatta, hair, makeup etc. This girl is charging me just that much for makeup only. I think thats the standard MAC rate out here.
I remember when I talked to a Mac makeup artist, she said she would charge me 225 for hair and makeup to come to my house (because theres an extreme shortage of desi makeup in NY)...if the wedding had been in NY i think i would've stuck to them..
Where in cali are you? I'm getting married there, too. As for makeup, don't just try MAC. Go to as many makeup counters as you can for trials. I have more tips, but no time right now...will add more later.
I live 2-3 hours away from san francisco, and there arent any desi salons anywhere near the place i live. Its kind of difficult to drive all the way to SF even if there are any desi salons over there in the city.
I was thinking of talking to different counters at the mall.. probably try Clinique or Lancome’s product recommendation, tell them the kind of look i want and see how they do it. If i like any of them ill probably talk to them about bridal makeup. I guess that would be better option because I can try out different places and see how they do the make-up. I also need to do some cosmetic shopping so that will be taken care of and i’ll also get to try different looks. I am still thinking of taking pictures to them though, that will give them a clear idea of what i have in mind.
believe me guys… i have seen sales girls at Mac counter (city centre) in barbie look. omg they were looking awesum like i mean to say their make up was gr888..some of them were looking like sluts(
