i personally think that djs are a waste of money....u should just make ur own cds (make it non-stop and include cross linking of tracks, so there woudn't be any pauses)....just rent a really good system....thats what i did for my brothers mehndi...smartest thing i ever did....
we had a dj for the shadi, and all the songs we requested him to play, he didnt play....he put on his own crap, and thank god i made a cd (just in case), so he played that....

we had a DJ on my sisters wedding in canada n he played fantastic songs it ws really good
bt d DJ in london for my other sisters weddin ws actin as if he ws in a club wid all his talking in the mic and playin d same old sikh songs at d end my brother in law js told him to shut up n we played our own songs

dj jiten is really good....but hes costly, and alishaht said not too pricey....but hey, if price was no option then he rocks....he djed a friends wedding...it was great!

I agree, Djs are waste of $ I think. I'd rather go w/ a dhol-player, those r pretty cool. At my wedding, someone complained to the DJ they didn't like the songs we were playing so he ended up playing some obscure, godawful crap music, not even my entrance song!

^ well then he was a bad DJ, period. i think good DJs are worth the money and i think they bring a lot of atmostphere to an event, especially if you and your family like to dance! :) you can't replicate that with an iPod playlist. it might be ok for dinner music but to get people up and on the dancefloor, i think you need a DJ.

well my family is full of crazy dancers...and for the mehndi, like i said, we didnt hire a dj....i knew the kinds of songs that they dance too....so i downloaded, them burned them with crosslinking (like non stop) and they danced the night away....
but on the shadi..the gay dj played some good bhangra, then switched it up to hindi..that ruined it..i had to warn him time and tiem again to just play the songs we wanted....urgh.....
if i had to hire a dj, i could hire him thru recommendations...like if i heard him at a friends wedding....becasue thats the only way you could tell how good they are.

Mendhi/Henna Dancers Wanted for GTA, ON, Canada
Hello Everyone,
My henna/mendhi night is going to be on Saturday, August 16, 2008, its going to be quite small, mainly females and family, because we tend to be more reserved and I want to have it small.
But, I'm looking for female dancers for the event. If you live in the GTA area: Toronto, Markham, Mississauga, Brampton, etc or are willilng to travel to Markham (Lampton Crescent to be exact) and are able to dance (Bollywood or even hiphop R&B) please let me know.
I am willing to pay unless you would like to do it for free :D lol
Professionals and amateurs welcome (as long as you have a choregraphed routine).

Wedding Entertainment / Dancers
Does anyone know of any desi dancers who perform at weddings in the Toronto area? I want to hire a few dancers on my wedding but I am having a hard time finding them.
Please help!
contact the university bhangra teams in your area, they'd be more than happy to perform, and they have stunts, dances, costumes the works... also random teams from canada used kill the u.s. teams at bhangra blowout competitions in d.c. and such. However u.s. teams finally caught up to them :)
Also you can contact any desi dance schools if you would prefer a classical bharatnatyam type dance...they would charge you more and you may get teh college team for free if someone knows them.

Thanks. I have seen some of the bhangra performers but I am not interested in that type of entertainment. I was actually looking for solo performers who dance to filmy songs... I still haven't found anyone yet :(

I have heard of live singers in Lahore but I don't think there are dancers.
