Ok here’s the thing. I’m going to Pakistan (Lahore) for the first time ever in mid feb for three weeks to do my wedding shopping. The main thing is obviously my wedding lehnga. I don’t really have an idea of what i want, and i thought i would spend the first 2-3 days there focussing on finding the lehnga and then relax into finding other stuff.. i’m a bit worried that if i go without any idea of what i want i’ll end up not like anything i see and start getting stressed out. Some people have told me i’ll find lots of wedding dress ideas there, while others have said i should know what i’m looking for before i get there…
I'm in the same position...
I have some idea of what I'm looking for though...but I'm keeping an open mind, in terms of colours, kaam etc..
My advice is to go to Pakistan and see what they have to offer...you might find things that look good there but the minute you bring them back home it doesn't look so great....do some research..have you got a colour theme?
how much are you looking to spend..
The choice is great there... but sometimes you can be spoilt for choice..so yeah perhaps have some idea in mind...
And once you have found 'the one'...Don't look at anymore bridal outfits..otherwise you'll start wondering whether you made the right decision..
Good luck, I hope it all goes well - Inshallah
I know... I have the same problem. I am going to Lahore too for my shopping. I am planning to look for my lehnga and hope to find something that strikes me and I fall in love with, but just in case I don't find anything that I like I am taking my own designs as a last resort. But the problem is because I am going to take my own designs/pics of lehngas I like, I am scared I will be comparing everything to them. I haven't been shopping in Pakistan before so I'm not too sure whats out there. I have heard of all of the main designers in Lahore, but thats about it!
What does everyone else recommend (perhaps from own experiences)?
ok lets get started..Im from Sri Lanka..and hopefully by the end of April I shall be gettin engaged n having the nikaah ceromony as well too..
Now the thing is …I intend to come to pakistan somewhere by mid march for abt 3 days to do all my shopping..
the problem is..i have NO idea…(absolutelly NO idea) of the place and where to go n where not to…I was thinkin of either lahore or karachi…
I need u guys to PLEEEEEEEASE PLEEEEASE help me out… and let me know if 3 days will be enuf to look around and get the things sorted out…
I have no idea of where to go..when to go n how to get abt….i have no idea abt the prices etc too…
All I know is that they have BEEEEEEEEAUTIFUL stuff..and my shopping is gona be done in Pakistan inshallah…no doubt!!
If ur wondering how I came abt pakistan…well pakistan is like my second home basically…even though ive never been there..i always felt I was one…and that’s cuz…I lived in the UAE for a long time..and literally all my friends were pakistani…now we’ve all dispersed.. anywyas moving on…
I really don’t know wat I want exactly..but im Im looking for something elite n chic…not necessarily it has to be designer wear..(I wudnt mind if it is also) as long as I get something REALLY REALLLY nice and if its worth the price (which I wudnt know :( )…I'm keeping an open mind of course…in terms of colours, ‘kaam’ etc..
I was thinking id first look out for the lehengas ( for the engagement and nikaah) and then the next few days for shalwar kameez’s (casual as well as party wear)…
I wud be more than glad if u guys can start helping me out..by telling me places I shud go to and not go to..since I don’t wanna waste anytime…and plus if 3 days are gona be enuff?? cuz I realy need to get helll loadza things sorted out and plan for…I need to get my leave set of work..etc..and lots lots more…
Hey, if youre interested in shopping in Karachi, pm me, i have a long list of places you can go to as my sister got married a few months ago. I personally think Karachi has the best selection of shops, boutiques and wedding stuff.:)
do u realy think karachi has better selection than lahore? well it wud be wonderful if u cud let me know the places...i know its a little to early..i jst dont wanna go thru last minute chaos....if u cud tell me wat i shud expect..in terms of style..quality.. price .etc it wud be great..so that i really know where im heading...
prolly a few pics mite help too...:)
im sorry i cant pm cuz im a new user and i need to have 25 posts apparently..but if u cud u can feel free to mail me at
well Karachi has a mix of Lahore as well with regards to bridal shopping. For a very nice engagement/nikah outfit you can go for something from HSY or better yet try Uroosiyat. My eldest sister got her whole trousseau from there plus her wedding outfit, which was very traditional and very pretty. It is quite reasonable as well.
With regards to style, traditional stuff never goes out of style, but ifyou want to experiment with some indo-western fusion kind of stuff, you could always visit designers like Nomi Ansari, HSY, banarsi or you can get your own thing stitched if you find them really pricey.
I’ll post a few styles, see if you like them then you can easily get them copied, i know the tailors and kaam walay who are exceptionally good.
i like the first and the last one...lovely colours too...looking for somethn of that sort..uno light colours (pale/pastel shades) ..nothin to murky or dark since its only an engagemnt n nikaah...
but yeah i love those first n last pic..
but i can get it tailored again rite if i have to? cuz im not loooking for somethin sleevless or very short tops....
i think thats a lil too revealing....but otherwise...i like them.. :)
Its such a relief to know that others are in the same position as me...!!
If i take my own designs with me as a back, by the time i've looked around and realised i don't like anything, won't it be too late for me to give my design to a darzi and say to him make this before i leave? surely if i'm to take my own design with me, then i should stick to that and give it to the tailor as soon as i get there so he can gaet to work on it?
Zaara - i have heard of the designers too, but personally they sound too overpriced to me. I think Anarkali and Rang Mahal are supposed to be good places to go.. but i'm just telling u what i've heard as i have never been to pak before either..
I'm sorry I don't know how long darzis take to make the outfits if you give them your own designs, but I'm assuming that you will have to have your outfit made anyway in order to get the perfect fit?
Yeah i guess you're right, although I've heard that sometimes they have ready made lehngas where the kaam has been already done on the material and all they need to do is sew it to your size...
i merged two threads since they were both on bridal outfit search in pakistan (lahore/karachi)
it would be more helpful if before opening a thread you do a search and see if there are any similar threads on the topic you need to discuss and contribute to those. there have been many pictures posted in the past and if we open new threads all the time then those will just end up lost…
I also have the same prb.. Im going to Lahore in March to do my wedding shopping, Insha Allah, and have noooooooo idea of how I want my lehnga to look like.
But what I know is if u want stylish / modren suits there are some great places in lhr for that like: Liberty markeet, Fortress, Anarkali and Ouriga.. In rang mehal and Ichra there is also a lots of good stuff but they are mostly unstiched I think.
Abt darzeez and how moutch time they take to it really depends on if u know the darzee or not. We have a "familiy darzee" in Liberty market so its not any prb for me, but if u dont know Ur darzee u should be preapared for many delayes...
Abt lehnga... If u want your lenhga from any desiger ( like Maria B, HSY, Neloofer Shaid etc) u really need aloooooooot of time and money... I have also heard that Karachi is the place if u want a really gorgeous lehnga. Or haan after Muharram the wedding season will start...so get prepared for the "rush"
I will aslo recommed u to do your shopping with any good friend or a fav cousin, belive me it really helps cuse they already know abt the good places and will spare u for a lot of time and stress....
Enyway good luck.....InshaAllah saab thik ho jae ga...
get a few reputable designers and boutiques listed for lahore and karachi, and just go to them....i think on the internet/pictures its not the same thing as holding it in your own hands....
cud u name a few reputable designers n boutiques please...i wud like to check them online..jst to have a loook..
even though if im not mistaken..the boutiques shall have a much wider variety rite??
i thnk most prolly il be ending up in karachi...
and yeah..whn do u thnk is a good time to go? as in the wedding season..to get good stuff..and latest designs/fashion..
