My marriage is expecting next year INSHALLAH. And after eid holidays i am planning to star shopping of my marriage. and i am thinking abut my wedding dress. caz now a days long shirts and shirts both r in with lengha. my height is 5.6". and i think keep the fashion trend at one place and see which one suit on me best. so plz suggest wt do i do?
Re: Wedding Dress
Im roughly the same height as you...I think short shirts are slowly coming back into fashion. I wore an A-line long shirt on my walima, it was long and it looked okay. I think it suits people that are over 5"7! But that's just my opinion.
Maybe go for something in between?
Re: Wedding Dress
I m 5'5 and I m making long shirt (2-4 inches below my knees) for my Jan 2012 wedding. I think with heels It should b fine inshallah

Re: Wedding Dress
im also with the long shirt...ive ordered long shirt with my lehnga for barat and same as for valima thats Maxi (Long Shirt)
Re: Wedding Dress - The long or short shirt debate!
I personally prefer short shirts with lehengas because to me long shirts cover up the lehenga and that doesn't look as nice. I'd rather the lehenga be the highlight and not the shirt. I'll be wearing a short shirt with my lehenga next year at my wedding.
Re: Wedding Dress - The long or short shirt debate!
What classifies a shirt as long? The ankle touching affair or just below the knees?
I am in the same dilemma for my Aug 2012 wedding!
Re: Wedding Dress - The long or short shirt debate!
I have always regarded Pakistani brides with ghararas, longer kameez,(up to the knees) flared shararas with trains etc while Hindustani(muslim) brides usually wear shorter shirts(up to the hips) with mermaid cut lenghas, no matter the era. Thats just my observation.
I kinda like this style at the moment, a mix of both worlds.

Re: Wedding Dress - The long or short shirt debate!
My wedding is in April 2012. I have a personal liking for shirts that're longer. I think longer shirts just look more "elegant" for a bride.
My kameez will be right at my knee. Also, my kameez is heavy and lehenga/dupatta relatively simple....and I'm getting matching churidaar made so I can wear the outfit in the future. :)
Re: Wedding Dress - The long or short shirt debate!
I think if one have those bulging thighs / bums issue, long shirts look supremely elegant, as they not only covers, but a balance of kaam on the shirt can be used to camouflage the weight problme as well.
Re: Wedding Dress - The long or short shirt debate!
I got a long shirt made with a lehnga for my cousin's wedding. It looks really nice because the shirt itself is short in the front and longer in the back.. Plus I convinced myself I can always get churidar or pants made to wear with the shirt later and a shorter shirt to wear with the lehnga later.
Re: Wedding Dress - The long or short shirt debate!
I prefer the shirt to be in the middle. I wouldn't want a "short" shirt, but I wouldn't want a long one either -- the long shirts look gorgeous, but the "middle" shirt is more classic and everlasting. I agree with Henna, short shirts are a common Indian design
-One benefit you get with the long shirt is that you can make a pajama or churidaar for it and you can wear it afterwards!
Re: Wedding Dress - The long or short shirt debate!
I prefer short shirts and short sleeves if you are slim and short/average height. Long shirts make you look heavier if you are not tall because your hips are covered.

disagree ..if ur slim and avg height long shirts look lovely.I used to think the same but now see that it's not the case, in fact it looks really pretty .and if ur slim nothing can make u look heavy (:( sometimes) ,except maybe a very fitting fishtail lehenga it adds to the hips & then some.
