Wedding Day (Baraat) Entertainment

What are some reccomendations for entertainment on the wedding (speeches, dances, etc.)

Re: Wedding Entertainment

a slide show with pics of u two..perhaps as kids..teenagers..with family..with eachother

Re: Wedding Entertainment

be careful with the slideshow though- it can get corny if overdone or set to the wrong music.

a couple i know had a slideshow of a bunch of old pictures of them from babies to the present (they'd been dating 8 years before they got married so they had tons of things they'd done together), and a friend of theirs narrated a little anecdote or comment about each picture that came up. it was a lot more interactive than just seeing words flash on the screen with a picture.

what about music? you could have a live band- pakistani or not. that will get people dancing for sure. cut a cake, have a first dance, have your dad make a speech... some dj's play games too with the audience related to the couple and how well you know them- but the thing with that is, it only works with people who are close to you. if you're having 300 people, chances are you wont know everyone or be close to everyone.

Re: Wedding Entertainment

my sisters wedding we had a slideshow--it was funny
for the walima, the guys side hired dancers.

Speeches are bleh...esp cause u dont know what type of speech someone might give -- i went to one wedding and a man did a speech on the history of pakistan cause there were a lot of ppl who were non-pakistani it was hilarious yet embarrassing.
lol

Re: Wedding Entertainment

keep speeches short and funny...otherwise ive seen ppl walk out and i have myself at speeches that go on and on....ppl wnat to kill themselves by that pt....at my wedding all my speeches were 5 minutes or less and everyone ws laughing the whole time...also the whole slideshow in my opinion is ssoooo old and played out think of a fresh idea...i think that is so played out.

Re: Wedding Entertainment

what is a good fresh idea?

Re: Wedding Entertainment

well cause weddings are usually a formal setting--its hard to have entertainment to ensure that everyone's content and enjoys it..

it also depends on ur guests..family...etc..if you've got pro religious than avoid having dancing etc..lol (my family wasnt too happy to see the dancers...esp when they were dancing to 'thora peenay dey') sheeshhh lol

Re: Wedding Entertainment

a few pakistani weddings i've been to lately have featured belly dancers... but like baigette said, if you're pro religious, it might not be such a good thing!

Re: Wedding Entertainment

one wedding i went to had our community religious figure come up and make a small speech on marriage. and then he led a prayer (dua) for the couple and everyone offered their blessings to them. i liked that.
just keep in mind the kind of crowd u’re catering to…one wedding had three belly dancers show up and more than half of the conservative relatives were pissed off and left the hall :cb:
speeches should be short and sweet. Dances with a DJ playing and everyone dancing are fun but I think the choreographed dancing (solo, group) are more fun.

baigette: OMG LOL! someone did a speech on the history of pakistan?!!! now thats wack

Re: Wedding Entertainment

At my wedding, Qazi saab gave a short speech before Nikah time and did dua for us after Nikah. There were some dances performed by close friends and also, a a group from hubby’s side and a group from my side had a antakshri competition. That was lots of fun. :k:

Re: Wedding Entertainment

I must admit, idea of belly dancers at weddings sounds so cheap especially considering that most guests attending will be desis.

Re: Wedding Entertainment

what is antakshari?

Re: Wedding Entertainment

it’s a form of singing competition…here’s how it’s played: Group 1 chooses a song & sings a few lines. Group 2 then has to come with a song which starts with the last word or letter of the song that Group 1 sang. It’s kinda tough but fun, the more people you have in both groups the more chances of having a tough competition.

Re: Wedding Entertainment

it depends on who the belly dancers are and how well they dance.
at one wedding, the bride's best friend was a belly dancer and she was extremely good and dressed in a long sleeve, floor length fitted dress. it was extremely tasteful, believe it or not, and her dance was very good and very pro.
then at another wedding i went to, there were three extremely raunchy girls dressed in bra-tops and low rise, barely there hotpant/skirt combos and it was just awkward.

its all a matter of perspective, i guess. desis can enjoy good dancing too!

Re: Wedding Entertainment

live music or someone with a short speech/telling funny jokes and stories it keeps the attention too

Re: Wedding Entertainment

Err i personally don't like the choreographed dancing stuff. Its boring to watch (and stressful to learn I'd think). Yeah, it may look "ridiculous" when u have uncles and aunties shaking their stuff, but hey they're having fun, I think that's what matters the most. Someone dancing and having tons of fun is much more fun than just sitting and watching ppl dance.

Re: Wedding Entertainment

i had a band and a singer in my weddin and my friend did a dancing where they kinda presented a little show with it,, it was nice,, did u see that movie hum saat saat hai, in there they kinda do this show on stage before the wedding, that would be nice.. well they are different ideas to present the show that is realted to ur life style,,, ???

Making the day different!

I am just in the process of sorting out the main day but want a mixture of things going on - i've hired a live singer, got a dj, the big plasma screens - any ideas on what else i could have?

Re: Making the day different!

livin high!!! mashallah

Re: Making the day different!

don't have too much going on either... its your wedding, not a variety show, so make sure everything has a place and a time and all points to you and your hubs and the fact that you've just gotten married. the live singer sounds like fun.

:)
