Wedding bands for men

Re: Wedding bands for men

lol what direction did this thread take? So jokes.

Yeah tiffany is overpriced I think. I know some people who have dealt with blue nile. I got my fiance a 5mm low dome comfort fit ring. Make sure you ask about the weight of the ring. Some places make them hollow or something. I don't think Blue Nile would but just call and ask to make sure it's a okay. Plat for the win!

Re: Wedding bands for men

Soconfused, I’m looking for a wedding band for my fiance as well so I’m in the same boat! I’ve had several friends use Blue Nile and it is very reputable- you just have to know what you want. i found exactly what you described on the site (Comfort Fit Wedding Ring in Platinum (6mm) | Blue Nile). I’m staying away from gold as well since it is haraam, but nowhere have I seen that platinum is also haraam.

Personally speaking, when my fiance and I went to jewelry stores to look around, we thought platinum was very expensive and cobalt rings look very similar to white gold rings and are much cheaper, usually about $200-300 (and their quality is pretty good too). The jeweler we went to said that if we’re looking into alternative metals, we should look at tungsten, titanium and cobalt. To differentiate between the three, cobalt is the whitest (closest aesthetically to white gold), titanium is the lightest (it seriously feels like there’s nothing there!), and tungsten is the strongest. Good luck, and PM me if you have more questions!

Re: Wedding bands for men

Just so you guys know - tungsten cannot be resized (not sure about cobalt) - but that’s also a reason I went with plat

Re: Wedding bands for men

Definitely a major reason why we decided against it. Thanks for bringing that up, I totally forgot!

Re: Wedding bands for men

I have that same exact ring bookmarked!

We decided to go with Platinum because he liked the feel of it and I think it actually has value like Gold does (I might be wrong, I read that somewhere). Personally, I liked the tungsten rings (the one with the black middle part and the sides have silver) but it was like $200 and I didnt’ want to get that for him if he didn’t want it.

I’m currently trying to convince the parents that giving a watch for the engagement makes more sense since he’s not gonna wear the ring till we’re married anyways. It’ll give us time to narrow down choices and I won’t have to make a decision anytime soon. lol.

Thanks! I’ll look into all these other options. Right now, I like blue nile the best. Surprisingly, Costco also has some really nice rings.

…it’s okay uncle, there are many things you don’t know. Plus we know you don’t buy online but in person at zainab market every 5 years.

Quite right. My brother learned that the hard way. :smack:

Another metal to look into is palladium. It’s silver white in colour and is quite similar to platinum. It’s part of same group of metals as platinum. It can be resized, keeps its colour (stays white) and is less expensive than platinum. Also, from what I’ve read, cobalt rings can be resized (although not by much).

Other metals that cannot be resized: stainless steel, titanium.

This article gives a good overview:

Re: Wedding bands for men

Haha, I totally get it. I think it's a desi thing (giving the guy his ring at the engagement). I gave my fiance a really nice watch for the engagement at the time he gave me the ring so it didn't look weird that he wasn't getting a ring also. Buying a guy a watch has it's own set of hoops though, given the different styles and preferences...that warrants its own thread!

Re: Wedding bands for men

omg tell me about it! I asked him for some ideas of what watches are good and he's spouting names I've never heard of. I just figured any old watch that was more than 500 dollars would be good enough but there's apparently some hierarchy in watches. It's making my head hurt! lol I've already asked 2-3 guy friends for help...lol

If anyone's reading this, feel free to tell me. I'm too poor for a Tag Heur or Rolex so don't bother mentioning those. :P

Re: Wedding bands for men

More than $500 ?

What a waste of money. IMHO. :chai:

Re: Wedding bands for men

isn’t that how much most nice luxury watches for weddings are? Seeeee, this is why I’m confused! I don’t even know what an appropriate price range would be. Most of the watches I saw were at least 450-500 dollars so I thought I was staying in the lower range?

Re: Wedding bands for men

You should look into Longines. They’re of the same caliber and craftsmanship as Rolex and Tag Heur but tend to be slightly less expensive.

Here a link to the US site for Longines:

Re: Wedding bands for men

I gave my husband a Movado watch for Christmas one year from their Museum collection. It's a super hot watch- also something to look into maybe? You can also buy them at stores like Nordstroms so you can always watch out for a sale.

Re: Wedding bands for men

Oh, and speaking of wedding bands, I bought him a titanium wedding band because he wanted something super lightweight. He barely wore it - and then lost it on one of our vacations on one of the rare occasions that he did. Doh! Good thing it was cheap! :P

Re: Wedding bands for men

I'm looking at Movados, Bulovas (they have the same type of feel as a movado I feel), Raymond Weil, and Tissot.
You got good taste! I love love movados!

Re: Wedding bands for men

Those are all great options!

Oh, just make sure you find out his preference on leather strap vs. metal. The metal ones can feel too heavy and he might not wear it that often if he's not into those. I opted for the Museum because the strap was leather and both that and the dial were super lightweight.

Re: Wedding bands for men

Oh man, I need to get hubs to be a watch too. I wanted to get him a Tag but unfort cannot afford. So far Movado is what I'm leaning toward as well. Unfort I'm in Canada and we don't have good sales here!

Re: Wedding bands for men

If you're in Toronto, there's a great jewellery and watch store in Chinatown. That's where I got the Movado. It's a big store along Spadina- you can't miss it.

Re: Wedding bands for men

I looked up the museum and yep, that's the one he already has! I want something with a similar look/feel but different at the same time, hence I was leaning towards the bulovas. Tomorrow, I'm gonna go look around so hopefully I'll find something!
