Wearing Green and White on America's independence day.....

if you’re pak american but your spouse/gf/bf/fiance/fiancee is pakistani(born and raised) and she/he wears green and white on the 4th of july…any issues?

Re: Wearing Green and White on your Country’s independence day…

at home I just want her to wear nature’s flag

PS: No issue

Re: Wearing Green and White on your Country's independence day.....

What is the context of the question ? Why would that be an issue ?

Re: Wearing Green and White on your Country's independence day.....

he/she will be linked with Haqqani group wherever they go :)

Re: Wearing Green and White on your Country's independence day.....

True. :)

Re: Wearing Green and White on your Country's independence day.....

well i was just thinking during 4th of july why do we wear the red, white, and blue. is it to respect the flag's colors as proud americans we are a part of american culture and society so would it be seen as being offensive if colors of another country are worn on this day or is it not such a big deal.

see if a pakistani american member had asked this question the replies would be different. :P

Re: Wearing Green and White on your Country's independence day.....

Nobody will know if you wear the color from your country , they will think it is a pretty dress from your home country and you are celebrating 4th of July by wearing such a pretty dress.

Re: Wearing Green and White on your Country’s independence day…

i’m just trying to think if i was in India I wouldn’t wear red, white, blue on august 15th, wouldn’t it be seen as disrespectful or if I was in pak visiting and I wore a patriotic India flag shirt or a shirt with the american flag on it on august 14th…well i just wouldn’t i would wear green and white i guess, :vivo: forget it, it was just something on my mind and i was wondering how pak americans would deal with it

Re: Wearing Green and White on your Country's independence day.....

So long as you're not burning Uncle Sam's effigies and chanting 'death to Amreeka' while you're clad in green + white, it wouldn't turn heads here compared to Pak/India. Americans (unlike Brits) pride themselves on being a nation of immigrants. You're allowed to embrace hyphenated identities : Pakistani-American, Irish-American, African-American. So you're free to celebrate/flaunt both (a post-911 world notwithstanding. You probably want to skip drawing the green and white crescent on your face at the airport unless you're in the mood to get molested by a large TSA official).

Btw, would Indians really mind if someone wore red, white, and blue on Aug 15? You're more likely to see an Indian youth proudly wearing a stars and stripes t-shirt (or the Union Jack, obedient subjects that we are) than an American kid wearing a t-shirt with a taranga on it.

Nisha , who is he ?

Re: Wearing Green and White on your Country’s independence day…

Whats wrong with wearing green and white? Or Blue and Red or White and Black or whatever…?

I think we should treat every day of our lives as independance day. Even if your a corporate soul slave or governmental stool pidgeon or civil servant like me it does not matter you can still wear your identity with pride. :jhanda:

Re: Wearing Green and White on your Country's independence day.....

nah, he doesn't show any interest in celebrating, so when I was new in UK I had some passion for celebrating it but it died away with time.

Re: Wearing Green and White on your Country's independence day.....

HUH? :p

anyways, forget about that, i think people are misunderstanding what i'm asking, july 4th being america's independence day, if your wife or gf wore green and white on your country's(america) independence day and you were a pak american, wouldn't you feel weird a bit? that's what i'm trying to ask

Re: Wearing Green and White on America's independence day.....

Wearing green white on America's independence day and in America? Would love to. Now being a Pakistani and keeping in mind the stuff that has taken place between the two countries in the past decade, I won't wear Red/White on America's independence day.

If the wife/gf wishes to wear it, she's free to. But then saying I'd be perfectly alright with her doing it? Overkill.

I think some courtesy has to be shown to others, otherwise someone shows up at your Eid party wearing a Halloween outfit based on same logic.

Most people will not care however.
