Wear a HIJAB ?? Why shud i ???

"I’m so tired”
“Tired of what?”
“Of all these people judging me.”
“Who judged you?”
“Like that woman, every time I sit with her, she tells me to wear hijab.”
“Oh, hijab and music! The mother of all topics!”
“Yeah! I listen to music without hijab…haha!”
“Maybe she was just giving you advice.”
“I don’t need her advice. I know my religion. Can‘t she mind her own business?”
“Maybe you misunderstood. She was just being nice.”
“Keeping out of my business, that would be nice…”

“But it’s her duty to encourage you do to good.”
“Trust me. That was no encouragement. And what do you mean ‘good‘ ?”
“Well, wearing hijab, that would be a good thing to do.”
“Says who?”
“It’s in the Qur’an, isn’t it?”
“Yes. She did quote me something.”
“She said Surah Nur, and other places of the Qur’an.”
“Yes, but it’s not a big sin anyway. Helping people and praying is more important.”
“True. But big things start with small things.”
“That’s a good point, but what you wear is not important. What’s important is to have a good healthy heart.”
“What you wear is not important?”
“That’s what I said.”
“Then why do you spend an hour every morning fixing up?”
“What do you mean?”
“You spend money on cosmetics, not to mention all the time you spend on fixing your hair and low-carb dieting.”
“So?”
“So, your appearance IS important.”
“No. I said wearing hijab is not an important thing in religion.”

“If it’s not an important thing in religion, why is it mentioned in the
Holy Qur’an?”
“You know I can’t follow all that’s in Qur’an.”
“You mean God tells you something to do, you disobey and then it’s OK?”
“Yes. God is forgiving.”
“God is forgiving to those who repent and do not repeat their
mistakes.”
“Says who?”
“Says the same book that tells you to cover.”
“But I don’t like hijab, it limits my freedom.”
“But the lotions, lipsticks, mascara and other cosmetics set you free?!
What‘s your definition of freedom anyway?”
“Freedom is in doing whatever you like to do.”
“No. Freedom is in doing the right thing, not in doing whatever we wish
to do.”

“Look! I’ve seen so many people who don’t wear hijab and are nice people, and so many who wear hijab and are bad people.”
“So what? There are people who are nice to you but are alcoholic.
Should we all be alcoholics? You made a stupid point.”
“I don’t want to be an extremist or a fanatic. I’m OK the way I am without hijab.”
“Then you are a secular fanatic. An extremist in disobeying God.”
“You don’t get it, if I wear hijab, who would marry me?!”
“So all these people with hijab never get married?!”
“Okay! What if I get married and my husband doesn’t like it? And wants me to remove it?”
“What if your husband wants you to go out with him on a bank robbery?!”
“That’s irrelevant, bank robbery is a crime.”
“Disobeying your Creator is not a crime?”

“But then who would employ me?”
“A company that respects people for who they are.”
“Not after 9-11”
“Yes. After 9-11. Don’t you know about Hanan who just got into med school? ..And the other one, what was her name, the girl who always wore a white hijab…ummm…“
“Yasmeen?”
“Yes. Yasmeen. She just finished her MBA and is now interning for GE.”
“Why do you reduce religion to a piece of cloth anyway?”
“Why do you reduce womanhood to high heals and lipstick colors?”

“You didn’t answer my question.”
“In fact, I did. Hijab is not just a piece of cloth. It is obeying God in a difficult environment. It is courage, faith in action, and true womanhood. But your short sleeves, tight pants…”
“That’s called ‘fashion‘, you live in a cave or something? First of all, hijab was founded by men who wanted to control women.”
“Really? I did not know men could control women by hijab.”
“Yes. That’s what it is.”
“What about the women who fight their husbands to wear hijab? And women in France who are forced to remove their hijab by men? What do you say about that?”
“Well, that’s different.”
“What difference? The woman who asked you to wear hijab…she was a
woman, right?”
“Right, but…”
“But fashions that are designed and promoted by male-dominated
corporations, set you free? Men have no control on exposing women and using them as a commodity?! Give me a break!”

“Wait, let me finish, I was saying…”
“Saying what? You think that men control women by hijab?”
“Yes.”
“Specifically how?”
“By telling women how and what to wear, dummy!”
“Doesn’t TV, magazines and movies tell you what to wear, and how to be 'attractive’ ?”
“Of course, it’s fashion.”
“Isn’t that control? Pressuring you to wear what they want you to
wear?”

—Silence----

“Not just controlling you, but also controlling the market.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, you are told to look skinny and anorexic like that woman on
the cover of the magazine, by men who design those magazines and sell those products.”
“I don’t get it. What does hijab have to do with products.”
“It has everything to do with that. Don’t you see? Hijab is a threat to
consumerism, women who spend billions of dollars to look skinny and live by standards of fashion designed by men…and then here is Islam, saying trash all that nonsense and focus on your soul, not on your looks, and do not worry what men think of your looks.”
“Like I don’t have to buy hijab? Isn’t hijab a product?”
“Yes, it is. It is a product that sets you free from male-dominated
consumerism.”

“Stop lecturing me! I WILL NOT WEAR HIJAB! It is awkward, outdated, and totally not suitable for this society … Moreover, I am only 20 and too young to wear hijab!”
“Fine. Say that to your Lord, when you face Him on Judgment Day.”
“Fine.”
“Fine.”

----Silence----

“Shut up and I don’t want to hear more about hijab niqab schmijab
Punjab !”

She stared at the mirror, tired of arguing with herself all this time.
Successful enough, she managed to shut the voices in her head, with her own opinions triumphant in victory on the matter, and a final modern decision accepted by the society, rejected by the Faith:
Yes to curls on the hair, no to hijab. Astaghfirullah

** *And say to the faithful women to lower their gazes, and to guard their private parts, and not to display their adornment except what is apparent of it, and to extend their headcoverings (khimars) to cover their bosoms (jaybs), and not to display their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers, or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their womenfolk, or what their right hands rule (slaves), or the followers from the men who do not feel sexual desire, or the small children to whom the nakedness of women is not apparent, and not to strike their feet (on the ground) so as to make known what they hide of their adornments. And turn in repentance to Allah together,O you the faithful, in order that you are successful. * **

Good post. Expect some whining from a few insecure females.

A very good post, JazakAllah!

I have one question. One, two, may be three.

Why don’t men be made to cover it all so they wont be able to see Khawateen or what they are wearing? Howzthat? Is Hijab just a 6 yard piece of fabric wrapped around a body? Why is Haj to be performed without Hijab? Why is Hijab in Saudi Arabia different from Hijab in Afghanistan? Do the two countries follow different Qurans?

Thanks.

good post, NG :jazak:

thanks

Madhanee, you and I and the rest of the men are supposed to keep our eyes under control. No double takes allowed. Now stop oogling over the girls and get back to work.

speechless

nice poem. Can we one on beards for men plz? they seem lacking in these young uns.

While Hijab is mentioned in the Quran (which makes it mandatory), keeping Beard is Sunnah (and not Farz) and there’s no mention of it in Quran. Similarly Khatna (Circumcision of the penis) is also a Sunat-e-Ibrahim and not a Farz. I doubt you will find any Muslim man caught with his pants down.

good suggestion...maybes another one for perverted men aswell

Hi!

Good reply Madhanee. i am too fed up with this kind of self created demand of men to coverup the ladies for the only reason to save from hell of some corupt men who can not keep themselves away from shatan, and they make sure that they must watch every lady a number of times from head to toe, instead of asking from God and saying many times, Aouzo billah hay minush shatane rageem; to control their bad character.

Hundreds, rather millions of poor , simple men never ever feel to even raise their eyes towards ladies, although they talk and interact at different levels with ladies. Actually such men are in real sense moullanas or sheiks. well said Madhanee -good conversation. But current majority of hijjabians wear it to do whatever they want all under cover, no recognition.

a beard is farz in fiqh jafaria. even if its a goati or barely visible.

lets just say if men did what they were supposed to do, they wouldnt realise if women were in hijab or not. the only muslim men i know of that dont stare down at women, are iranians.

Reminds me of something similar that I wrote in high school.Interesting.

If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head"
1 Corrinthians 11:3-6

"I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God"
1 Timothy 2:9-10

When a Nun covers her head, she's religious, pious, holy and sacred.

When a Jewish sister covers her head, she must be able to practice her Faith with no compulsion or fear and in securiy with a right to exist.

But when a Muslim sister observes Hijaab, she is oppressed, neglected and ruled with a whip.

What hypocrisy?

The woman's head veiling is not some antiquated cultural or denominational momento from another era; nor is it a relic with sacramental power in and of itself. It has been here from day one.

The reality is that from ancient times, it was only the Harlots and Prostitutes who went about publicly without head coverings.

So, the moral of the post is that if you want to be dealt with by your intellect, then observe Hijaab, and if you want to be dealt with by your sexuality, don't observe Hijaab.

Very simple really.

Girls who don't wear hijaab are stupid. Thats my two cents.

I don't think they know what kind of things guys think of when they see girls....even ones with hijaab. Guys have this thing built in where they have no choice but to say somehting and think of stuff, towards girl. If only girls covered themselves. If they don't , then its obvious they want guys to think such things about them.

Being a guy myself, take my advice!

million of poor men? u r either gay or a pethaitc liar. and i also think u r judging all hijabans by some , as i said pethatic point. as for madhanee ,guy is a lost cause leave him be.

Regardless of one's opinion or God's mandate regarding hijab, if a woman is dealt with by her sexuality instead of her intellect just because she isn't covering her head, it is the man treating her with disrespect who has the problem, not the woman who feels she doesn't have to cover up to be taken seriously. Perhaps he needs blinders put on, his eyes plucked out, or even neutered if he cannot treat a woman (who doesn't cover up to compensate for his sins) with respect.

What did I say about whining insecure females?

And what the hell do you mean by majority of hijabans. Stop talking out of your ass. Nearly all Hijabans are decent - just a few that give a bad name to the rest. You people only seem to notice the messed up ones.

women get raped even when she wears a burqa.
aadmi still ogles at a woman who weasr hijab ( i have seen this with my own eyes in pakistan).
explain that.
