gensec, aside from the names i provided, I am sending u the list of team and their base in Islamabad. I am taking the phone numbers and names out, but you will have all this info in the PM, I am leaving the rest of info here so ppl know what other teams are doing, and what all to watch out for. I have highlighted some areas of this post
as u can read there will be rotating teams of doctors going in and coming back, so if u coordinate with them your team can be much more productive, safe and organized.
Please read the info below, get in touch with the right ppl and watch out for your safety, you will be there with expensive equipment, laptops, digital cameras.
**A base camp with a round the clock communication center will be setup
in Islamabad at Shifa International Hospital and all the equipment and
supplies will be stored there (9251-4446801 and fax no 9251-4446879) **after I
reach Islamabad.
I will leave for Islamabad this sunday with 4 team members for first hand assessment and
coordinationwith PIMA The fisrt team is compsed of 2 surgeons, 2 orthopods, 2
pediaricians, 2 psychiatrist and 1 int med/public health and 1 anesthesoilogist
This team will be picked up from Islamabad Airport by PIMA workers **
and will stay with me till their departure onwards. Depending on evacuation plan into shifa, these folks will either operate at **Shifa in Islamabad **or will be taken to **Second Base Camp in Abbottabad. Part of the team depending on need will work in Abbottabad or will be taken to 3rd base in Muzzafarabad and onwards based on needs. we plan to create **camps
in Batal,Batgram, Ghari Habibullah, Balakot and Rawla kot **and wherever else is needed Each team will rotate atleast for two weeks or may be longer depending on needs
The second team of ten people should depart the following week and
will overlap with the first team for a week and this process will continue
We are acquiring one satellite phone for each camp Each team should collect as much stuff as possible in your own specialty and take in your personal baggage e.g sutures, plates, aneasthesia supplies Medicine (mainly antibiotic samples etc), Vaccine Pain killer9Please have your local reps arrange them).
The main problems in the affected areas:
Harsh weather, Poor roads and Access, Poor communication, No
electricty and Fuel. The road link to Muffafarabad has been reestablished but
because of rains and land slide is precarious. **The road to other areas are still not
open and we are looking into airlift by the military and civilian side. Some
**Dacoits tried to rob somepeople but we have arranged armed gunmen for security.
we will try to do our best but in this situation, every thing does
