We Need Afridi in Test Matches

ya i know that he has said i dont wanna play test…but i think v really really need him in the test team…the agrresiveness is missing guyy onyl he can provide it…and also he is concentrating on the 20 20 more which is just entertainment…
selectors should convice him to play test matches

what u guys think???

great... exactly what we need... another brainless slogger with no technique who's incapable of playing according to the situation ..

Re: We Need Afridi in Test Matches

^ samb yaar - I'd rather have Afridi over any of our current lot of so-called openers - he brings variety to the spin dept. and is a good fielder. I'd rather have an all-rounder in the team who contributes in an area, rather than a "specialist" who sucks. The way I look at it, Pak's got nothing to lose by replacing one of the other inconsistent batsmen with him.

Re: We Need Afridi in Test Matches

Mathematically:

Imran Farhat+Salman Butt+Shoaib Malik < Shahid Afridi

:rotfl:

Shoaib Malik >= ImranFarhat + Salman Butt + Shahid Afridi

He is just out of form.

he was never in form :D

Malik might not have the technique of a Yousuf or an Inzi. but he does have a functioning brain... and the same cannot be said about Afridi, Farhat, etc.

have to disagree with you there, LC bhai.

if the current specialists aren't working, we have to invest in new specialists. the cases of Aamir and Umar Akmal show that there are youngsters out there with talent. if we keep going back to tried and test failures like Farhat, Nazir, Afridi, we will never get anywhere.

that new opener Azhar Ali is supposed to play with a straight bat and has good temperament. similarly, Umar Amin's name was also thrown around a lot at one point. how the selectors decided to ignore all these guys and bring back Farhat is a mystery to me. he must think he is Lara the way he throws his bat outside off. retard...

Re: We Need Afridi in Test Matches

^ samb, I'm certainly not suggesting Afridi's inclusion over a new comer specialist bastman who has potential. What I said was that I prefer him over specialist who we know suck at their so-called specialty, and often make it even worse for the team by virtue of their fielding - read: Farhat, Manzoor, Hamid, Butt et al.

This is utter jealousy from you torwads Imran Farhat, look at him, he is great son in law, a great husband and probably best family man around in the team, how many cricketers are selected on these grounds, don't you have any respect for the family's sentiment, apart from this, he has great potential to lift the spirit of the team ( read opponent team) which is important for the cricket, how many players you think have got this ability and they get selected.. so please don'tbe jealous if you lack all of above...

Out of dead-pitches he is 'out of form' :D

BTW, I used to like Shoaib Malik esp under Bob Woolmer but ever since he became captain of the national side his performance has declined and his politics has jumped high.

I agree with Shoaibl Malik not being test material outside the flat sub-continent pitches. Plus he plays a lot of poltics in the team...very shady character.

There are so many youngsters, we should try them. Farhat damad is there cuz of susarji Selector. Bhanja Faisal is there cuz of Javed Mamoo PCB Director. I dont know what Khurram Mansoor and Salman Butt's parchi/sifarish are but obviously they are not chosen on merit and past performance. I'd still give Mansoor a chance, he hasnt played much overseas so maybe try him out but Salman Butt, Imran Farhat and Faisal Iqbal have all played over 20 test matches without much stats/accomplishments overseas to write home about.

well unless you show me better alternative, I'll still put my money on him instead of Imran Farhat, Salman Butt, Imran Nazeer etc in TEST

Re: We Need Afridi in Test Matches

Aside of the 2 Akmals, MoYo, the seamers (Asif, Aamer, Gul, and new comers, Ajmal, and maybe misbah, anyone in the team can be and should be dumped/swapped out for new talent to be tested and proven out, so another Umar Akmal can be discovered....

We have to dump these guys first to find out if we have better alternatives. Likes of Shoaib Malik use politics to stay in the team.

Re: We Need Afridi in Test Matches

*so ur suggesting 4-5 new opening pairs
*

malik doesn't bowl and struggle to score in tests against quality opposition. Don't know how you came up with that equation.

Malik, farhat, butt etc are the factors which are taking Pakistan test cricket to failure.

Re: We Need Afridi in Test Matches

^ Well I'll take malik anyway over any of ImranFarhat, Salman Butt , Shahid Afridi. ok Afridi's latest form and romance has made it hard to ignore him but Malik still is more technically sound as compared to Afridi.

If we are talking about politics then its another thing. I am just giving arguments on "ability" basis

Looks like I am one the few fans who's romance with afridi goes back to late 90's when I started considering Afridi a bowler allrounder and not a batsman. I have been arguing since then that he is a very deceptive bowler and a utility player because of his ability to bat.

In my personal opinion Afridi will still rank higher than Malik in test matches if we have to make comparison. However ideally I would like to see none of them in the side and rather have a specialist test player instead of these utility players.

I simply refuse to believe that our domestic circuit currently lack quality players who can replace tullay baaz like Malik and leeches like Imran Farhat in test matches.
