We Don't Like Haram Stuff?

Yes, We are Muslims. We don’t eat Haram.

Last time, when I was flying to karachi, I heard a gentleman asking the airhostess if the food, he was being served, was haram. I asked him, “where do you live?” He answered, “Toronto!” I asked, “Do you possess a car or a house?” He answered with a smile on his face, “Yeah, Mashallah two cars and a house.” I asked if these things were paid off. But then I finally got to know that his house was on martgage and one of the car was on finance. Dang! … Isn’t paying interest HARAM?

Why do we forget the word HARAM when it comes to pay interest on a house or a car or anything else?
But still when we go to McDonald’s we ask, “Excuse me, is your shortening suitable for Vegetarians?”

I know, it’s hard to explain why do some people have dual personality. But still, if you follow Islam then follow it, do not follow it kind of.

Re: We Don't Like Haram Stuff?

Desi and their urge to judge, did you ask him if he got those financed through an Islamic financial institute? ohh you didnt knew they existed...

Re: We Don’t Like Haram Stuff?

ohh yes i knew they existed :barbie:plus he didnt financed it from any islamic financial insititute.Interest is haram, either taking it or receiving it. There are now halal organizations like Amana Funds and Guidance Sharia Finances that help you to invest your money according to Islamic Law. I don’t understand why ppl don’t take advantage of such things and strengthen halal institutions. In the Quran it says clearly, don’t make halal, haram and don’t make haram, halal.:snooty:

Re: We Don't Like Haram Stuff?

If he is doing something haram like mortgage then it does not mean he should do all haram things or stop doing the good things he is doing? It is very difficult to follow the perfect path for halal haram and at least he is trying. Some people don't even care. They drink and do stupid things and then go and read Jumma in Masjid. It can be very difficult to judge..only Allah will judge these people not us.

Re: We Don't Like Haram Stuff?

How about living in a house that ur parents r paying interest for, is that haram?

Re: We Don’t Like Haram Stuff?

investment is still different than financing. whether you call a spade a spade or a clover..its a spade, so either a spade is allowed, or its not.

Re: We Don’t Like Haram Stuff?

exactly..if one is doing something wrong does not mean he should not do all the right stuff he is doing. Otherwise..all of us would have too stop all the good stuff we are doing because all of us are doing or have done one thing or another that can be considered wrong.. whether knowingly or unitentionally..no one is an angel.

Re: We Don't Like Haram Stuff?

What exactly is the procedure with Guidance Sharie et al. Is one paying extra cash in addition to the prinicpal balance or JUST the principal balance? If you have to pay anything above the balance then its the same as paying interest, just sugar-coated.

HAs anyone here financed thru these institutions?

Re: We Don’t Like Haram Stuff?

Even if you commit haram acts, you still get rewarded for your good deeds.

So it is better to continue doing certain things that will get you rewarded rather than stop practising Islam altogether.

Anyway, eating haram food and paying interest are two different kettle of fish. I pay interest on things, but i couldnt physically bring myself to eat something haram because i would :yukh:

Re: We Don't Like Haram Stuff?

My understanding you purchase property via installments, you pay a premium for these installments which are indeed higher than the actual cost of the property but technically you aren't paying interest. Like a rent to own, except each payment gives you an increased % of ownership in the property

Re: We Don't Like Haram Stuff?

according to your logic.....you're basically saying that if one is paying a mortgage on his home then he might as well be drinking alcohol and eating pork.

as Muslims we strive to do our best.

Re: We Don’t Like Haram Stuff?

Thanks. So they just gave it a different name, but it works exactly the same way a regular mortgage does. Its a great idea! People who would spend all there lives living on rent can now purchase real estate cos they gave it a different name.

Re: We Don't Like Haram Stuff?

nazoo..you didnt expect these kind of responses did you? but i agree with them...we are not perfect but we should try to do as much halal as we can

Re: We Don’t Like Haram Stuff?

yup, and thats why I say that

either

one believes that mortgage is not the same thing as ribaa and thus get financing anywhere,

or

if one beleives mortgage is ribaa, then thats what it is regardless of what name you give it, serice fee, profit, share..whatever…and in that case they should just pay cash or not buy etc.

cant say that islamic financing is okay and rest is not just because of how ppl state things or what they call things.

I happen to be in te first group so I would only go for financing from these halal outfits if their rates and service delivery is the best deal for me.

Re: We Don't Like Haram Stuff?

No one Quote me on this:

But one of my muslim co workers pays the net of interest during the year to poor people in the end of the year.

Is that a way of making up for the unavoidable interest payments or reciepts?

Re: We Don't Like Haram Stuff?

(edit)

Re: We Don't Like Haram Stuff?

don't you get back the interest on house anyway? No?

Re: We Don't Like Haram Stuff?

^ No, what makes you say that

Re: We Don't Like Haram Stuff?

This actually reminded me when I was flying to Pakistan last time (a month ago). I took Emirates from DXB and there was a guy sitting in the row behind me (on the left side) I could see him. It was only two of us in the Business Class, so it was kinda empty. When they brought he drinks, they guy asked if they had any heineken (its when my ears stood up, thinking he is paki, flying from DXB to Lahore). They said no sir, we dont & offered him other choices of beer, but he insisted for the Heineken.

In the end he accepted some other beer but asked for a complaints form & filled in the complaint & gave it to stewardess. But the most funny thing was ... at the immigration. He was standing in the Paksitani Passport queue and it was taking time (all queues were), and started to swear the FIA. Result he was arrested, and FIA started saying, oye ainay peetee ho'ee jay ... ainu sharab peen ich andar kar daina ay. etc etc.

The purpose of telling the whole story is .... some even ask (to restraint from eating) if its haram and some insist for haram. We cannot tell grown up people, they can do what they want. They have to go into their own grave. Allah will judge them, Allah is Haseeb.

Re: We Don’t Like Haram Stuff?

I can understand about interest received but what about interest paid e.g. for a mortgage, how does he pay that to needy ppl
