Well, If SA beats UAE by 1 run, Pakistan would need to beat Ireland by 409 runs to overtake SA runs with 1 run.
so still possible :D
but yeah I agree on ground, its almost as good as impossible.
btw, I am not going to much into calculations. We SHOULD beat Ireland and secure the spot first before anything else because we can still lose out on top 4 spots.
Rain during Pak vs Ireland game can make sure both qualify. How is the forecast :)

You are right. There is still a chance to not qualify for quarter final, especially if Pakistan loses to Ireland. So, best is that Pakistan should win against Ireland and secure a place in quarter final.
For WI, if they beat UAE by 80 runs than their quarter final position is secure. But for Pakistan, various possibility exists.
Brother, I am not statistician, but what is happening in world cup requires basic knowledge of statistics. Anyhow at college, I was good in maths and stats, but by profession I am in communication engineering (there is lots of maths and stats here too).

You are just a fan, like all of us. :)
They should start teaching sports statistics in Unis. It is a large enough field by itself and has implications from drafting, trading, salaries, salary caps, betting etc.
Situation would be same as SA losing to UAE (SA ending up with 6 points). Pakistan would overtake SA in table and would be second placed with 8 points, behind India, followed by SA.
What I wrote is that, it is practically impossible that Pakistan could beat SA in run rate, though Pakistan can beat SA in points.
Run rate between Pak and SA would come into play for second and third position if Pak beats Ireland and SA beats UAE.
