Re: WC Points Table

aah...we SHOULD have toppled WI too with RR. It was only the matter of 15 runs :(

Re: WC Points Table

England needs to win both their matches against BD and Afg. :(

Re: WC Points Table

can they make it even then?

Re: WC Points Table

If they beat BD than BD's last match is against NZ and they will be under pressure.

Re: WC Points Table

I think NZ and WI are only two test nations who have lost ODI series with 4-0 and 3-0 margin against BD :omg:

Re: WC Points Table

So we moved to 3rd position ahead of wi n Ireland thanks to India n SA

Re: WC Points Table

Well, crucial matches are: WI to play UAE. If WI wins than WI qualify (unless Pak wins against SA as well as Ireland ... and Ireland beats Zimbabwe and India, losing only to Pakistan).

Most likely chance is that Ireland would lose to India and Pakistan ... plus ... Pakistan would lose to SA. In that situation, WI would qualify.

Pak and Ireland: If Pakistan wins against Ireland than WI plus (Pak or Ireland) would qualify depending on run rate (Pak or Ire). If Pak loss to Ireland than WI and Ireland would qualify.

Re: WC Points Table

Some news is coming that rain may save Pakistan from getting thrashed by SA. It is possible and Pak might get 1 point, but even then situation for Pakistan would change a little. Whatever happens, Pakistan have to beat Ireland to qualify. Anyhow, if Pakistan would get 1 point due to rain, Pakistan would come out of run rate problem and would sit at No 3 if they beat Ireland.

That would be different than present situation, where Pakistan have to beat Ireland and also make sure that run rate of Pakistan gets better than Ireland.

Re: WC Points Table

In pool A, still the most likely chance is that NZ, SL, Aus and Eng would qualify. Unless BD beats England (or NZ) or rain wash away Eng Vs BD game (or England loses to Afghanistan).

Re: WC Points Table

yeah seems like Rain is going to save SA from humiliation :snooty:

PS: I’d rather get one point in SA game to get out of chakkar of NRR. Then it will be in our hand to reach to Qtr (by beating Ireland) and not wait for other results for qualifications.

Re: WC Points Table

btw, there is another Important game today in our pool. IRE vs ZIM.

I hope ZIM wins the game.

Re: WC Points Table

Thrashed? Isnt that harsh? :hehe:

Re: WC Points Table

Yea tou hay. Actually, it is not Pakistani fault that we are in this chakker of run rate. Fault is of Wi losing to Ireland and we are paying the price. Ideally SA, Ind, WI and Pak should have qualified beating Afg, UAE and Ireland, but no, WI have to lose to Ireland, than beat Pakistan badly. Anyhow, I agree with you that if Pakistan gets one point, Pakistan would not only come out of this run rate situation, but if we then beat Ireland, Pakistan would be number 3 in pool B.

That would be a big relief, as then Ireland would be out and Pakistan along with WI would be in. No chakkar of run rate. But here also, last match would be important, that is Pakistan still have to beat Ireland.

If Zimb beats Ireland and Pakistan lose to Ireland than Pakistan would have only 4 points, same as Zimb and Ireland … assuming that all other matches bring in expected results … Ireland lose to India and Pakistan lose to SA. Then again run rate chakkar would come in … but in that situation, Pakistan would have upper hand and most likely would qualify on run rate.

Re: WC Points Table

Bhai, kiya karoon, halaat hee ayesa lag rahay hain

SA has posting 400 runs (plus) in their last two matches and it is possible that they might post similar total against Pakistan too, especially if couple of their top batsmen play as expected. On the other hand, Pakistan line up is disjointed and it seems very unlikely that they would be able to score 250 against strong bowling of SA.

Re: WC Points Table

This format has one major drawback. A team that has won all of its group games incl. three good wins against top sides in their respective groups (India, NZ) could potentially lose to a lesser team that has qualified by merely beating the minnows in their respective groups (England, Pak) & go out of the World Cup at the QF stage!!

How about Sachin's proposed idea of 25 teams with the aim to globalise the sport.

My proposed model
5 teams split into 5 groups A to E i.e. 4 games each for every team in groups A to E. Top two from each group qualify for super ten
10 super ten teams split into two groups (F & G) of 5 each. Each team in F plays against each team in G and vice versa i.e. **5 games each
**Top 4 in super ten qualify for the SFs; 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3
Final

i.e. the finalists will have played 11 games (rather than 9 as with the current format)

Re: WC Points Table

To many games. I guess. (50+15+2+1=68 games)

Id rather have 10 countries playing each other and top two playing best of 3 (45+3=48 games)

To give associates chance at WC, lets have a cut-of date and last two full members on that cutoff date play with associates for qualification.

and for globalization sake, we can increase number of teams in T20 WC.

Re: WC Points Table

After Pakistan beat SA (a very unexpected result), situation has changed, Now, to qualify Pakistan have to beat Ireland, but could also qualify if Pakistan loses to Ireland, Anyhow, the situation is that:

If Pakistan loses to Ireland than, Pakistan or WI would qualify on run rate (that is, if WI beats UAE). Situation is that, if (number of runs 'WI beats UAE) + (number of runs Pakistan loses to Ireland) would be less than 80 (approximately) than Pakistan would qualify, else WI would qualify.

Re: WC Points Table

Ireland has two matches left and say both get washed out. Than Ireland will be thorough and Pak will be catching flight home.
