Re: WC Points Table

By promoting Misbah and Younis as openers the run rate situation can be addressed?

Re: WC Points Table

BTW two top teams Mahan England and Pakistan are on same boat :hehe:

Re: WC Points Table

Brother, I think you are wrong. England lost their matches with teams they are supposed to lose (NZ, Aus and SL) and in this aspect, their situation is same as Pakistan. England won against Scots, and if they wins against BD and Afghanistan, they qualify. There is no upset in their pool what happened in Pakistan’s pool B. That upset was Ireland beating WI, that has opened the door for Ireland getting into quarter final, pushing either WI or Pak out of quarter final.

So overall, by Australia sharing point with BD, nothing changed in Pool A. But WI losing to Ireland, situation in Pool B changed.

If Pakistan had beaten WI than WI would have got out of contest. Since WI won against Pakistan, 3 teams would be contesting for 2 places in quarter final on run rate. Here also, Pakistan situation is worse as their run rate is pathetic. Things might change if Ireland loses to Zimb or their run rate gets worse playing India, SA and or Pakistan.

Re: WC Points Table

^ so if Ireland beats Zimbabwe does it mean pak is out.

Re: WC Points Table

^^^ No, that is not the case. But if Zimb beats Ireland than Pakistan qualifies ... unless later, Ireland beats Pakistan than Ireland would still qualify. That does not mean that if Zimb loses to Ireland, Pakistan could not qualify.

India has to beat one of WI, Ire and Zimb ... or lose to them with close contest to qualify.

SA has to beat two of the three reaming matches (Ireland, Pakistan and WI) to qualify ... or win one but lose two with close contest to qualify.

As things are, it seems, Ind and SA would qualify and contest would be between Ireland, WI and Pakistan. So, important matches for Pakistan are:

WI to play: UAE, India
Most likely, WI would lose to Ind and win against UAE

Pakistan to play: UAE, Ireland, SA
Most likely, Pakistan would lose to SA and win against UAE and Ireland.

Ireland to play: SA, Zimb, India, Pak
Most likely, Ireland would lose to SA, India and Pakistan but would win against Zimb.

As things are: WI run rate is -0.313 and Pak run rate is = -1.373 … both would play and possibly lose against one strong team, while both is expected to win against weaker teams (supposing Ireland is weaker than Pak). It seems very unlikely that Pak run rate would get better than WI, and thus WI would qualify (that is expected possibility)

So, contest would be between Pak and Ireland.

Pakistan is expected to win 2 remaining matches (UAE and Ireland) and lose 1 (SA).
Possibility is that, Ireland would lose 3 matches (SA, India and Pak) and win against Zimb.

Now it all depends on margin of winning and losing. Ireland run rate is +0.338 and Pak run rate is -1.373. Though it is difficult to overcome that run rate gap, but it is possible.

So, let us hope that Pakistan wins their matches with good margin and do not lose badly. On the other hand, Ireland lose badly and win marginally. If that would not happen, than Pakistan would be out of tournament regardless of they win their expected two matches (against UAE and Ireland).

Note: If result of Pakistan against Ireland and UAE would be close (as happened with Zimb) than Pakistan would have to pack their bags home.

Pakistan batting line up is so pathetically weak that if not for Wahab Riaz who made brisk 54, Pakistan would have lost this match. Wahab Riaz made 54 runs in 46 balls. If he had made 33 runs in 46 balls (still very good score for a bowler) instead of 54 runs, Pakistan would have lost.

Re: WC Points Table

Thanks for taking the time. Great explanation.

Re: WC Points Table

You are welcone

Re: WC Points Table

Let's hope we win against SA to go straight n then we wud be deserving also

Re: WC Points Table

:help: calling Saleem Malik

Re: WC Points Table

Lets take one step (match at a time)

If Pakistan beats UAE with run-rate diff of at least +1.94, they will replace WI on 4th spot (as the point table stands today)

Some of the scenarios this can be achieved is

Pakistan bats first:
Makes 300
and restricts UAE to under 200

Pakistan bats second:
Achieve the target with runrate of 1.94+ the rate with which UAE scores. For example
if UAE makes 250 runs, Pakistan has to achieve target in 36 overs

Re: WC Points Table

Result of today's match ire vs Sa will push ire nrr down

Re: WC Points Table

Achha mazaq hai. :omg:

Re: WC Points Table

^ aaj pakistan 500 to kar hee le ga… suna hay 2 innings allow kar di hayn Pak ko :chai:

Re: WC Points Table

Pakistan ko halka na leen 1992 main bhi… :emmy:

Re: WC Points Table

Well, after SA thrashed Ireland, chances of Pakistan to qualify for quarter final has increased considerably. At present, both Ireland and Pakistan has played 3 matches and Pakistan in run rate is only marginally down (35 runs) compared to Ireland.

So, in coming matches:

If India beats Ireland with exactly similar margin as SA beats Pakistan.
If Pakistan beats UAE with exactly similar margin as Ireland beats Zimbabwe

Than Pakistan and Ireland match would be decider. In that match, Pakistan would need to beat Ireland by 35 runs to qualify for quarterfinal.

Note: Situation would have been worse for Pakistan if SA won against Ireland with lower margin.

Re: WC Points Table

^ nice t o know!!!!

As first step, I'd like Pakistan to beat UAE with big margin, to take over Ireland at least and WI if they can in NRR.

Lets win today game with the NRR diff of at least 2 ... Inshallah
