and just to make one thing clear....hitting with nothing bigger then a toothbrush is used figuratively and I am not the one saying this....it's in the hadith. But you wouldnt know since it seems that you havent actually read about this. :)
Yeah im not muslim. hindu by birth, by choice I'm someone still finding myself when it comes to religion. but yes, sometimes my varied perceptions of this world and it's objects and inhabitants, perfections and distortions make me both question and at times instinctively feel the existence of God. God as a creator. beyond that, I can't say. I'm a sort of atheist open to the idea of discovering God one day.
But yeah, in the case of there being God, I don't think any religion has any monopoly over him/her. Or that God would ignore those that don;t follow this or that faith.
So im not muslim, but Im sure even if i was, I wouldn't understand the part about beating, with or without a toothbrush or the likes of it.
uh and i think that's all I have to say on this matter.
