Niksik, begum says they are nonsense and can potentially be more complicated than good ol’ fashioned births. Begum says it’s these new aged hippies that think water births are cool.

That being said I know that some women end up having bowel movements during the pushing part, I can’t really imagine that floating around in the water.

That’s actually a valid concern.

If you’re in the middle of labor, and you have a bowel movement, do you think the midwife will tell you to get out of the tub and walk to the bed? Or do you think they will first let go of the dirty water, then wait for the tub to fill up with clean water again, meanwhile you’re in the midst of labor???
