I don't think its just a precaution. When Government insists on one-dish waleema, people feel that they have been deprived of to celebrate properly. You, me and all of us raise a question after someone return from a daawat. 'Menu main kia kia tha?'
I'd say , let them celebrate , but there should be organisations who collect leftover food.
Throwing food in marriages should be fined heavily.
Ppl will automatically stop.
what about one dish in bulk? it is of course a precaution, i have been to weddings where people were staring atempty dishes because food was in such less quantitiy. Weddings should be arranged and planned accordingly, Host must know how many people will be coming.
scarcity can be addressed but extra wishes (hawas) and show-off can't be. There are incidents when groom side demands for variety of dishes (nahin to naak kat jae gi)
Done in Muslims too. May be we call it borrowed from Hindu, which is technically wrong. Its technically a rasm which has been carried forward inspite of conversion
Goud bharai rasm is not ours? but, people follow that too

That is another issue. We can curb wastage of food even with this issue existing (not tht its correct to demand )

If someone want to help poor then provide them with fresh food / ration. We wait for leftover food to help the poor. There is also a connecting concept of maintaining self respect of the poor while you do charity, which we miss most of the times

IMO wastage is not limited to leftover food, its also wastage when you can feed someone with chicken biryani, but due to demand from other part, you have to go for say barbi-q, prawns, etc

Ppl going hungry for days is better than giving them leftover untouched fresh food ?
Im not saying ...wait for leftover food to help them. But one can put tht leftover food to good use this way.

Once again , I feel you are mixing two different issues here.

Its a good usage of leftover food, but its a conditional charity. You don't intend for that, but you don't have anyother option. In strict sense, its not charity its disposal

Its mixing two connected issues. look someone could have dawat expenses of say Rs 200,000 by serving Biryani, but had to go for prawn and Bar-B-q which cost say Rs 400,000. This is a called israaf / wastage

It is charity muqa.
There are poor who eat after searching dustbins.
IMO, giving leftover food to poor is charity.
One has to try to find each n every lil way in which one can help.
That organisation I told you about is feeding many mouths. Its an example of how lil things can eventually become big.

My point is we should not do charity in a way when people have to search for leftover and dustbins. If our society want to help poor, why not support them in such a way which doesn't hurt self respect. We do read in Quran ' spend on poor , what you spend on your family'. Will we accept leftover for our family? In Quran, whenever concept of kaffara is discussed by way of food, it says serve food as you serve to your family

you missed my point.
If at the moment I can feed a 100 mouths by voluntary charity and if i add this leftover clean untouched food and im able to feed 200 mouths. What is wrong in that ?
This way im adding a 100 more to the list of ppl who dont hv to go hungry.
What I suggested is by no means going to decrease what others voluntarily give in charity. It will just add to the amount of mouths I can feed.
And there is nothing wrong with the food being served to them. Its exactly the same food which the guests ate.We are talking abt the leftover food on serving dishes or the cooking pot.Not the food left on others plate.

I don't say that leftover food does not mitigate the hunger of hungry people. Its as good as fresh food and superior than the food searched in dustbins, etc. I was just pointing the intent part. When we were arranging for food, we didn't have the poor ones in our mind. We thought it would be served to the guests. If we plan properly and if we can afford, why should not we provide the food to the poor for say a week ( the food which they normally consume), instead of providing them with excess / leftover food for one time.
