One was lethal, the other consistent. When they bowled in tandem they both went shoulder to shoulder. Outside the pitch however it seemed Waqar had always been a step behind Wasim.
They were both legendary bowlers no doubt. But when pit head to head, which one of them is really better than the other?
It would have been nice to discuss if they were still playing. Since they are retired I think there is no need for such discussion but thats just my opinion don't get mad. I think we should be looking forward/discussing about the new talent such as Umar Gul, Rana, Sami and etc.
too bad they stopped being friends and starting playing against each other then as a part of team. we wud have done so much better in the 90s if these two wud have put there differences aside and played as friends for pakistan.
Dear friend, we had this discussion in detail earlier at gupshup. For your convenience, I am posting the link. I hope you will find answesr to all of your questions regarding this topic. Regards
2 W's all the way... they were more destructive while bowling together than alone or alongside others... Waqar with his deadly toe crushing yorkers and yardly swing and Wasim with his always vicious line and length. numbers do tell that Waqar has an edge over Wasim.. but Wasim was always cabable of turning matches around, where as Waqar looked really ordinary after changing his action.. but i love them both. they serviced their country with dignity and honor.. and with full dedication (unlike actor)...lets hope we find someone or a pair of good quality bowlers to fill the boots of the best bowling pair EVER..
I think it was better that they had issues off the field, because that mental tussle resulted in a number of wickets for Pakistan. Wasim Akram was far, far better ofcourse.
waqar and wasim both were good bowlers. Waqar had better swing and speed. and wasim had more variety and control. Since wasim was better in batting than waqar, his overall standing as a cricket player is higher than waqar. In bowling, if waqar had bowled the same amount of overs and played in the same amount of matches as wasim, according to waqar's average he would have more than 600 wickets in ODI. In conclusion, both were great.
I don't know why everybody compare them against other rather than evaulate them as a pair.... They were destructive because they compliment each other just too well yet they were different. Had they both been of the same style i don;t think they would have gotten these many wickets for the Pakistan. One was unplayable due to his variety and control and other was unplayable due to his swing and speed. So in my point of view waqar got these many wickets due to wasim and wasim reached those milestones due to waqar.
I think the biggest reason Shoaib is not as effective as either of these because he still doesn;t have a fast bowler to share the new ball with him. You have to keep pressure on both ends to get wickets and the wicket then can go to any of the bowler. Shoaib is unlucky because he doesn;t have any bowler to compliment him or to make him do more and more due to professional jealousy...
^^ fast bowler at the other end... Shoaib doesnt perform only coz he is a nut hole..
While talking about Waqar and Wasim.. they both have performed independently and in pair. The only reason was that they were loyal to cricket. they had the right zest to fight..
In my opinion Waqar was a better fast bowler. and Wasim was the best BOWLER.
True, can’t compare the legendary wasim n waqar with 2 Khoota’s
Just compare their bowling averages speically not in their home grounds and you will get to know.
