1) It can't be significantly higher than NYC. 2) With the low interest mortgages it's not difficult to get a good loan especially if you make a healthy 60k income. 3) A 60k income starting as stated in this thread is pretty good especially if it comes with a pension plan. 4) Put a portion of that income into savings accounts and let it grow. 5) Don't buy things you can't afford.

Most Americans are in debt because of #5. 60k isn't rich but it's healthy. It's pretty easy to comprehend.
