Washington DC

ok I have no idea where this belongs but please move it around if needed!

When is a good time to go to DC? is cherry blossom season worth exploring in mid March? What are the places to visit? Indoor, outdoor?

in a nutshell, what to do in DC for two days?

Re: Washington DC

Atleast I can answer your this question that yes cherry blossom season is the best of all I would say. There are a lot of outdoor activities at that time. If you have two days you may peek in all the museums etc. Have fun when you go and share with us how did it go! Cheers

Re: Washington DC

April 1st week, I would be there, to see cherry blossom festival and all the museums :dhimpak: INSHA ALLAH..

Re: Washington DC

Georgetown is lovely. Very clean and the little green man tells you how many seconds you have to cross the road! FUN!

Re: Washington DC

how is cherry blossom season in mid march? are they on full bloom?

Milly.. lol @the lil green man :p yep Georgetown is in the list.. I just dunno how the weather would be in mid march (spring break time).

Re: Washington DC

what is to see in Georgetown??? Tell me so that I can put in my list as well.. Thanks.

Re: Washington DC

well we were just thinking about a walk in the downtown in one of the oldest neighborhoods in DC to see historical buildings, eat at a fine restaurant, and may visit couple of parks but looking at weather this year March may not be the perfect time to go to DC... I need to explore more!

Re: Washington DC

Georgetown Area
The Capital
All the mueseums are free
White house
Washington memorial
D.C zoo (it's really nice)
Arlington area for nice resturants

outside D.C
Shenandoah Caves and Valley
Reston TownCentre
Leesburg Outlets

And they are AMAZING. I could only manage about 4 of them in one day, but they were really good. The air and space one...FAB!

Oh and the walk from the pool to old man Lincoln is so lovely when the weather is nice.

you mean the Smithsonian is free ?? or something else.

you are awesome.. i should just start calling you my personal travel planner.

DC Zoo is the National Zoo.. right? that would be a must I guess!! Shenandoah caves sounds great too.. since it will be a road trip, lets see how much can we squeeze in two days!

alritey, now I need top three museum recommendations that are MUST to visit in DC

Re: Washington DC

quick question.. does anyone how to go from NJ to DC using Chesapeake Bay bridge? It mentions an alternate route from Delaware but is that how GPS takes you there or not?

Re: Washington DC

We had our weekend trip to DC/VA.. We had to scratch things off our list because I was sick and it was raining but it was just awesome..Smithsonian Air and Space Museum is a MUST if you are in DC area and yes it's free.. We also had the chance to go to Natural History museum but it was just okay!

There is a beautiful mosque in downtown DC.. I have only seen pics.. I wish we had gone there but didn't know about it until we came back!

We drove to shenandoah caverns and that place is just amazing.. MUST SEE.. we had plans to go to Luray caverns and Natural Bridge but didn't get time to do so!

We stayed in Reston and ate at Roti Grill on Lake Anne two days in a row for dinner.. delicious food (limited menu, not spicy at all, cooked to perfection) highly recommended!

Thanks everyone.. it was very helpful.

Re: Washington DC

Thanks for a nice trip info... I am planning for the first week of APril... Cherry Blossom festival :D

Re: Washington DC

Nice, i'm also thinking to go there for the festival. Should it be the first week of April only? I'll try to pick the places suggested here and try to cover in two days... :)

Re: Washington DC

My girls enjoy the natural history and the air and space museums.

They recently redid some exhibitions in Natural History.

I also recommend the D.C zoo. Embedded in heart of the city it's a pretty one to walk around. But make sure it's a nice outside. (not too hot)

Walk around near the marina on the potomac. There are usually kiddie carnivals in the summer.

A must is the Georgetown cupcakes.

There are plenty of nice parks around Arlington.

Re: Washington DC

Wow....what perfect advice!
Great thread with your review too GtG.
