Was Mona Lisa a Man ?

****ROME — Italian researchers who specialise in resolving art mysteries said Wednesday they have discovered the disputed identity of the model for Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa – and claimed he was a man.

Silvano Vinceti, chairman of the Italian national committee for cultural heritage, said the Florence-born Renaissance artist’s male apprentice and possible lover Salai was the main inspiration for the picture.

What is more, Vinceti said da Vinci had left clues to the model’s identity in tiny letters L and S which he and his team found painted into the eyes of the Mona Lisa.

“Close examination of a high-quality digital copy of the portrait had revealed an L for Leonardo and an S for Salai,” he said.

Re: Was Mona Lisa a Man ?

So if i get this straight....the most beautiful painting of a chick is in fact a painting of a man. In other words the most beautiful painting of a chick is by a man of a man.

Re: Was Mona Lisa a Man ?

WOW. forget man and woman i have come to known about a knew fact that mona lisa was an actual human being hahahaha. i always thought that mona lisa was an imaginary person by Vinci and did not existed in real life.

well going by the pic yes Mona Lisa does look like a man.

may be Vinci was gay or maybe Mona was actually a man (just his friend) and Vinci just used him for his painting or maybe it was a woman indeed.

Re: Was Mona Lisa a Man ?

While there were very strict laws against homosexuality…it was fairly common in Europe during the Middle Ages/Rennaissance period.

Re: Was Mona Lisa a Man ?

The Mona Lisa is Ugly....!

She is over rated and if it's a he as is now proposed it only goes with what I have been saying all along...

Mona Lisa is ugly.... ugly...ugly...

What a sallow face, she looks sick not pretty... if I thought it was the image of beauty then damn i'd rather be a spider or something.

Re: Was Mona Lisa a Man ?

^lol true. It was/is over-rated.

Re: Was Mona Lisa a Man ?

The Mona Lisa has never been called the most beautiful woman by anyone in art circles. Nor is it famous because of that. And it is most definitely not overrated when it comes to painting technique.

The real timeless nature of the Mona Lisa and the hype over it is because of a number of reasons.

  • The artist himself is legendary; Leonardo Da Vinci is a remarkable man. Everyone wants a piece of him, still.
  • The techniques used in the paint were the fore-runners of more contemporary techniques of painting. That is a large influence.
  • The who mystique as to the identity of the subject is another reason why its so continuously studied.
  • Its generated so much interest over the years that its just famous you know? Like just for the hell of it. She's timeless.

Re: Was Mona Lisa a Man ?

Thankyou brother for enlightening me… but again popular culture has sort of swept all that aside and simply gives the Mona Lisa an epic status she hardly deserves… it’s like giving a formula one car cleaner the credit for winning the race… when while his work helped it was hardly the reason for the victory unless he mixed some magical chemical into the air intake ports… :rotfl:

Re: Was Mona Lisa a Man ?

and useless!.....dare I say :@:

:lifey:

Quote of the century!

Re: Was Mona Lisa a Man ?

I did not specify why it was over-rated for a reason.

I did not say it was over-rated for being the most beautiful woman.

No matter what one says, including so called technique…it was/is over-rated.

BTW it was also considered that her ‘smile’ is the reason for being ‘unique’ :smack:

Re: Was Mona Lisa a Man ?

The Mona Lisa itself is not incredible because of being Mona Lisa. Its discussed so much and has that hype because it revolutionised painting and portraiture techniques. But the hype about beauty and all that is just BS.

It is a revolutionary work. It is a creation and it must be appreciated for that. Forget beauty or it being a woman, man or a tranny, like it for the technique.

Re: Was Mona Lisa a Man ?

Man you got my vote for art minister… remind me of your talent when I need advice from good artists. :lifey:

Re: Was Mona Lisa a Man ?

Then what is it over-rated for? Pray do tell!

Are you a halfwit? The technique is revolutionary. The field of view of the portrait which challenged established full-body portraits, the focus variations in that painting and the intimacy shown were not applied before the Mona Lisa. Everything changed after contemporary artists followed Leonardo Da Vinci's technique.

Now unless you know what you're talking about, I'd probably suggest that you walk away.

P.S. I agree it is not amazing when talking about the painting itself but the processes are something you cannot call over-rated.
