The 1st world cup match is over and pakistan just got hammered by aus., and that shd be a wake up call to them. They shd pull up their socks and get their act together. They’ve got to win all the other league games to put them in a gd spot for the semis.
The thing that pisses me off the most is the decision making of the pakistani think tank and the way waqar’s captains the side. For instance,
Not to play a bowler of the calibre of saqlain
Play 2 openers who’re so inexperienced
The field placements. Aus always found the gaps. Also, the placements shd have been defensive when it was attacking and vice versa.
He dint apply proper pressure after ponting’s fall. Aus scored 50 runs of the next 5 overs.
The over rate problems
Its not like we lost and all blame goes to the skipper. But he’s and experienced captain, and shd do a better job.
well saeed anwar was unfit so he had no choice but to play umer. although why he picked a loser like afridi ahead of azhar mahmood or saqlain mushtaq is beyond me.
saeed anwar will come back for the next game Inshallah but he has not played cricket for a long time now and it will be almost impossible to expect him to get runs the first time out. pakistan should send saeed to open in every game and hopefully he will get some form by the time we play india and zimbabwe for a place in the super six.
azhar mahmood too should come in for afridi and maybe pakistan should drop younis khan and play another batsman.younis never gets runs when it matters.
as for waqars captaincy, he sucks.he always has and aleways will. we all knew thet before and were hoping wasim would be given the captaincy for the world cup but the pcb like folls stuck to waqar and when we lose the world cup we should have their heads for it.
And did u guyz c the way he got embarassed by umpire sheppard after bowling a beamer to symmonds. its embarassing to see an umprire shouting at a captain and then been taken out of the attack. this guy freaks out under pressure
Well I think now every body is shouting at him cause we lost the match... had we won the match it would have been a different story. Winning or loosing Waqar is just a bad captain. I mean his cricketing sense is worse than an ordinary cricket follower. He will have to improve dramatically if Pakistan is to pose to serious threat in this world cup.
Guyz, Waqar didn't do much wrong. Although Im anot a big fan of Waqar, but winning the toss and electing to field first, was the right decision at the time because there was a lot in the pitch for fast bowlers. Waqar didn't know that Australa wud put up a mamoth total of 310 up and Andrew Symonds would smash 142. Luck was just not on Pakistan's side today.

yep. He and OPther players worked all major players out of aussie batting line up, they just didnt care about Symonds Enough and he made them pay. They kept bowling to his strengths.
His only mistake was not to go for the kill after aus were 86/4. He shuld have brought Shoaib back immediately instead of Razzaq. But that happens.... I m sure he and PAkistan as a whole will improve.
I voiced my concerns about Waqar's captaincy some time back but I was mainly concerned about his poor man-management. I think though the spirit in the camp is just fine for this WC because everyone is busting a gut to do well after the last couple of years.
His decisions cost us the match today, half of Australia's runs came from Symonds and he was facing part-time bowlers for most of that time.
any cricket fan knows that if pakistan bats second they will ALWAYS lose...especially when they play in a bit tournament.none of them are mentally strong.earlier we used to do reasonably well when we were chasing because we had the best opening combination in the world in saeed anwar and aamir sohail, and they would always give us good starts.but since that combo broke up,saeed anwar has never had one reliable opening partner...he has had to open with 30 different players and all of them have failed.
waqar should understand that even if the wicket is playing tricks he has more of a chance batting first than second.if we chase we will always lose.
In my opinion he just tried to take logic-less risk, made an effort to play some sort of reverse psychology on Aussies. He still need to realize he is playing worldcup as a captain, this is time to make some mature decisions.
anyway, I really hope he will learn from his mistakes.
We all know Waqar is a below average captain, and the burden of captaincy has drained his performance.
He is the single most reason why Pakistan lost today.

[li]Didn't play 6 bowlers
[/li][li]Didin't play Saqlain
[/li][li]Didn't bring back Shoaib when they Aussie batsman looked vulnerable.
[/li][li]Didin't let Wasim finish off his 10 overs in the early part of the innings.
[/li][/list=1]
If he had done atleast 2 of the things mentioned above, I can guarentee you Pakistan would have won today, because our batting wasn't that bad.
The problem is that we do not have anyone else to do the job. Akram wont lead the side, and everyone else is too inexperienced to lead, especially in the World Cup.
The biggest mistake in the match was to field first. No matter what the conditions are, u can never expect the Pakistanis to chase the Australians. Even though there was no Shane Warne, the Aussies are strong enough to protect any total their batsmen put up.
Secondly, they played a huge gamble to play Afridi and leave out Saglain, and he was badly missed. How in the world can you expect Afridi to open the innings and play against the likes of McGrath and Gillespie. Afridi was terrible in the field, with the ball and with the bat.
As far as someone mentioned that they should kick out Younis Khan, I must he is one one of the corner stones in the Pakistan batting line up, along with Inzamam and Youhanna. In this match I think, he got abit unlucky. He had just asked gor a new pair of gloves and his bat slipped out of his hand. And as we saw in the match, in Younis Khan we have an efficient part time bowler, who can bowl a good 5 to 6 overs and contain the batsmen, and probably even pick up an important wicket. He should be allowed to bowl at a regular bases.
Youhanna and Inzamam have to realize their responsibilities. They are the ones who will have to do the major part of the scoring, if Pakistan has to survive in this tournament.
I used 2 think that when Pakistan are fired up and united they can beat any side in the world. It shows they still cant beat Australia. Yesterday they wer united but Australia were something else. We aren't good enough nemore and there are many clear reasons:
Opening pair, Saeed anwar will not solve it either as he is not fit enough
We dont rotate the strike and get singles thereofre the pressure builds.
The great Inzamam is not the same, His eyes and feet movement are non existent.
We miss Moin Khan's aggressiveness.
Shoib has no stamina, hes only fast in his 1st spell, theres no threat in his second spell.
Waqar Younis is a liability as a bowler, captain and fielder
ho evar syas we should play wid 6 bowlers doesnt understand the problems of Pakistan. They cant afford 2 play 6 bowlers with a battin lineup like ours. Not even the best batting lineups play with 6 bowlers so nebody who says that must b joking.
If we win the toss we Must Bat !st regardless of the wicket as we cant chase ne score batting second.
My brothers Eid Mubarak 2 u all and as it was my Eid yeaterday it got spoilt with the defeat and i hav 2 say i was gutted!!!

I'd like to comment on the part "Did not bring back Shoaib when the Aussie batsman looked vulnerable" I think at that point he was more concern about the over rate, thats why he had Afridi and Younis to quickly finish the overs to catch up with time. Had he picked Saqlain it would have been all good. As we all know fast bowlers tend to waste more time then spiners, and Shoaib I think he waste more time than anyone else.
I think the main 2 reason we lost the match were
[ul]
[li]He should have picked Saqlain and Azhar instead of Taufiq and Afridi
[/li][li]He should have elected to bat after wining the toss
[/li][/ul]
