What the hell is he trying to sound like? Chawnce (chance), Warnie (dude, his teammaets call him that NOT a commentator on TV), Aussie, etc.
Plus his comments are extremely boring. He has the nerves to repeat what his fellow commentator has just said. He would say the same exact thing and change an adverb.
Plus his story telling sucks. He never tells the whole thing in detail and tries to hide his communications skills by saying short sentences.
i was surprised to hear shoaib's accent. The dude can put on a nice show even though he doesnt have the vocab his accent is awsome. county cricket does wonders for our jhopar pati youth.
Though, in another thread, I have myself criticized Waqar for not being expressive but I think we should give him a chance. Personally, I prefer to have a Pakistani voice in the commentary box whenever Pakistan is playing.
Afterall what are our choices amongst the recent lot of retired players. Ramiz is undoubtedly the best, but who else. Aamir Sohail :) ? Wasim Akram is OK but he will also need some polishing. So lets give them some more time.
waqar needs to improve alot as a commentator but on the other hand i would love to see him as a bowling coach for U19 team.
he himself came up from U19 and certainly he can contribute alot to Pakistan cricket by coaching the youngsters rathers then just giving comments on TV.
given how our bowlers bar shabi and danny performed in the test series and with the injuries to shabeera and gul. i'd say its' still not 2 late 4 waqar to resume his test career , he is only 33 and physically fit for the game.
shoaib akhtars accent is just as bad. what is wrong with these people, atleast the indians arent ashamed of their accents and can string a sentence together without any grammatical mistakes.
Danish's angrezi was quite good in one of TV interview that he gave during 3rd test i guess at least Shoaib ya Waqar kee tarha accent bana bana ker tu nahi bol raha tha !
this reminds me of something Shoaib Akhtar once said when he won man of the match/tornament?...i cant remember which one...he was fairly new though.
He won a car and said "i thanks the gods that i have the UK licence applying for" or something to that effect...he did definately say "thanks the gods" bit though...
I for one am proud of Waqar Younis to make it to the Channel-9 commentary team. Its a huge huge acheivement coz the only South Asian players i have seen on channel 9 is Sunil GAvaskar. And there is not a single commentator out there who would've want to do the commentary on Channel-9 coz thats the ultimate as far as the quality goes.
Waqar's grammar or sentences may not be too attractive but when it comes to fast bowling then he has given some excellent comments and insight during his time in the commentary box! There were several times Waqar proved his excellence, e.g. Gillispie bowling to Kamal around the wicket and Mark Taylor goes "I cant figure out why Jason is going around the wicket" and Waqar pointed out that the landing surfance over the wicket is damaged and it hurts bowlers' ankels if he lands on an uneven surface etc.
I know Waqar can improve his commentary ALOT, but i guess it should be appreciated more than criticized or laughed at. Its his first go at the commentary and he can only improve. Better than Akram (suttay-baaz) doing his cheap commentary with some Indian channel.
this is the slave mentality of the people from the sub-continent still not gone. how well do you think gillespie or ponting speak hindi or bengali or urdu? and do you think the english laugh at how americans speak english?
