Yeah, if you have an accent, stick with it. I don’t go around making fun of Sanjay Manjrekar for example, who sticks with his accent. Mr. Waqar goes from being a British to a South African to a Sri Lankan to an Australian! Really. Plus, he should contribute more comments from his own, which he will learn with time I am sure.
*No, he doesn’t have much ability. Often times it seems like he is lost in his own thoughts while commentating, and doesn’t respond much to any of the queries. He was asked a lot of interesting questions by Mark Nicholas, which I’m sure a guy like Wasim Akram would have answered with some real insight. Waqar just gave some “ayeen bayeen shayeen” and started talking about something like how “Pakistan is on top right now” . *
Atleast he tries to speak Angrezi. It's not his fault you know, they invited him to do all the babbling so he had to come up with a few things to entertain you guys. Ha ha
Now that proves another good point; he listens to his wifey unlike some other ignorant people out there who like to chala their hukam all the time. :-p
Well his Australian wife sure is coming in handy for him.
As I said, no matter if you like his accent or not, atleast he brings in some extra entertainment for you people :D
Enjoy it, do not criticize.
Theres a difference between guys like Shastri and Manjrekar speaking English and guys like Waqar and Wasim.
English is (almost) India's first language. People in India have a developed and a standard accent. Every kid who went to primary school speaks fluent English. However thats not the case in Pakistan. Other than students who go to GCSE schools the others learn to speak fluent English quite late.
In the case of Pakistani cricketers who usually end their education after high school, they learn their english when they go to England to play country cricket. Learning english that late in life and from goras, helps develop an accent automatically.
Speaking of Sanjay Manjrekar, I think he is a very under-rated commentator.
He is humble, modest, impartial, unemotional and has the ability to observe things beyond what is obvious.
He may not be as flamboyant as some of the other commentators but he has all the skills a commentator needs to have.
