Want to pray 3 times a day? Well here's a fatwa!!!

lol, another topic connected to Turkey! Pray to Allah this doesn’t happen in Pakistan or anywhere else!!!

Fatwa Allows Muslims to Pray Just Three Times a Day

Ankara, AKI (10 October 2007) - Turkish Muslims will be allowed to pray only three times a day from Wednesday instead of the usual five - without fear of committing a sin.

A member of the scientific council of Istanbul University, Muhammad Nour Dughan, has issued a controversial fatwa or religious edict cutting Islamic prayer requirements from five to three times a day.

The move has provoked widespread debate as well as opposition from orthodox imams or Muslim clerics.

Sharia law allows for the possibility of praying three times a day in case of sickness or travel.

The fatwa extends this option allowing Muslims to pray three times a day, especially when they are heavily committed with work or personal issues.

The Turkish debate echoes a similar one that has already taken place in Egypt where the fatwa has also drawn support.

**Jamal al-Banna, brother of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hasan al-Banna, endorsed the Turkish move.

“Merging prayers has become a modern necessity,” he told the al-Arabiya website. “In most cases, people do not always perform the five prayers on time due to the pressures of modern life.”**

Al-Banna is often criticised for his modern interpretation of Islamic rules. He said the Prophet Mohammad himself had given followers this option that could be applied when prayers cannot be carried out in a given time.

A member of Egypt’s Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Youssef al-Badri, rejected the argument saying it was unacceptable to merge prayers unless it was due to travel, illness, rain or pilgrimage.

Good to hear Turks are thinking practically... Far to often our religous puritans forget that we cant always appy the standards of the 7th century to the modern world...

Re: Want to pray 3 times a day? Well here’s a fatwa!!!

^ Or even better, not follow Islam at all for that matter :mash:

As Salaamu Alaykum To All Muslims Brothers & Sisters, manifesting Pure Islaam:

There is a misguided Muslim by the name of A. Muhammad who promotes a false doctrine called the “3 Salaat Theory”. Upon doing research exposing this false doctrine, I have learned that there is another sect in Islaam who call themselves Progressive Muslims Be aware this man-made sect disguise themselves as Muslims following Qurâaan alone representing True Islaam, when in fact they are not, and they are also notorious for propagating this twisted, false, man-made belief 3 Salaat Thoery. I have done extensive research and thoroughly exposed this false sectarian belief they foolishly uphold as truth. I have taken it a step further and debated them in their so-called forum. When one examines the debate, you will clearly see that they have failed to uphold their kafir belief system of the 3 Salaat Theory and only have argued with emotions, crying, complaining but NO: FACTS/EVIDENCE/PROOF inside Al Qurâaan. Any body can examine the facts from the links below:

Below is the link where I have debated them in their own forum
http://www.free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=6028.0

Allah in Al Qurâan has said that Salaat are decreed at specific times:

Quraan 4:103
Once you complete your Salaat, you shall remember Allah while standing, sitting, or lying down. Once the war is over, you shall observe the Salaat; The Salaat are decreed for the believers at specific times.

In other words we (Muslims) are suppose to uphold the 5 prescribed Salaat as outlined in Al Quraan by our Majestic Creator, Allah, which are below:

**(1) The Dawn Prayer (Fajr) given in 11:114, 24:58 **
**(2) The Noon Prayer (Zuhr), given in 17:78 and 30:18 **
**(3) The Afternoon Prayer (Asr), given in 2:238 **
**(4) The sunset Prayer (Maghrib), given in 11:114 **
(5) The Night Prayer (Isha), given in 24:58

We have a debating ring inside this forum and if any so-called Progressive Muslim want to go head on and debate this subject let me know, I would be glad to smash any one of you and beat you up side the head with the truth of Al Qur’aan.

Re: Want to pray 3 times a day? Well here’s a fatwa!!!

Or even better, how about follow Islam in a way that isnt stuck in the 7th century… The world is changing, it not gonna wait for Islam to catch up, sorry… :mash:

Re: Want to pray 3 times a day? Well here’s a fatwa!!!

No, let’s just get a head start. Since portion of Islam *seems *to be changing every couple of years, why wait :mash:

Re: Want to pray 3 times a day? Well here’s a fatwa!!!

Im not, and obviously, neither are the Turks… Reinterpreting Islam isnt changing Islam by the way, its simply taking what there and changing your understanding of it… Thats basically what Islam is anyways, just a bunch of people we call scholars who interpret relgion for us…
We just get used to one form of intrepretation and assume that that is the only one, which is obviously not correct as interpretation can always change.:mash:

Anyways, hey, I have met you brother online.. Nice kid, met him on jump tv during the whole Lal Masjid fiasco… Take care..

Re: Want to pray 3 times a day? Well here’s a fatwa!!!

you sounds like a scholar yourself with immense understanding of islam. mind sharing your understanding and interpretation with us unfortunate ones? any book u’ve written that i can read to know the modern evolved and fit-for-this-world islam version? my understanding was that islam is a way of life and not some piece of cloth you can change every hour. if you think islam is not fit enough for this changing world and your needs then i guess you should try other religions which are up-to-date with todays demanding world. islam is old fashioned anyways. :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Want to pray 3 times a day? Well here’s a fatwa!!!

Without going into a big discussion, could you explain this hadis from Sahih Muslim where the Prophet combined prayers without there being a need just so that his followers did not have to face unnecessary hardship? Again, I dont ask for alternate evidence, I wish for you to explain this specific hadis, do you think it is fabricated, or whether the Prophet was going against the Quran?

Re: Want to pray 3 times a day? Well here's a fatwa!!!

The news report is quite ambigious. it says

Ankara, AKI (10 October 2007) - Turkish Muslims will be allowed to pray only three times a day from Wednesday instead of the usual five - without fear of committing a sin.

Will they be forced to not pray five times a day ? as they force women not to wear head scarf in govt offices and schools ?

Or it is just an allowance that they may pray Five obligatory prayer at three times in a day instead five times a day.

if former is the case then it is absolutely wrong like many other Unislmaci laws already in practice in Trukey. But in other case it is nothing new we can join prayers in daily life. This is already allowed.

If someone has access to fatwa and its original wordings then please share. thanks

Re: Want to pray 3 times a day? Well here's a fatwa!!!

^ i dont think its the former, the wording of the article has nothing to suggest that 5 prayers wont be allowed. the widespread sunni belief however is that combining prayers is only allowed, if at all, during times of necessity (as the opposing fatwa says.. journey, rain etc). The turkish fatwa says thats not so.

Re: Want to pray 3 times a day? Well here's a fatwa!!!

Nope, no understanding of Islam.. Sorry...
I have started to write an idiots guide to Islam, not sure if yor interested.. I havent published it yet, its in its infancy right now, but I hope to one day market it to the many self diluted idiots out there with a chip on their shoulder soon... Which is a pretty big market:)

Only personal perspective. Logic dictates that any belief system, if it is to be relevant, should be able to fit into the modern world. Any belief sytem, be it Islam or Atheism, loses its relvance as soon as it loses the capacity to change in accordance with the changing world.

The simplest Analogy I can give is.. Would you wear a T Shirt in the Winter? I doubt it...
Now im not emphasizing that people only pray three times and mix in the other prayers of the day, but we certainly shouldnt shy away from evaluating and assesing our religous beliefs so they can be adjusted to meet the demands of our modern world.

Islam is only old fashioned when people refuse to change their understanding of Islam... Islam has to be understood in the context of the modern world otherwise it has no place. Now im not asking anyone to dump their beliefs, only reevaluate and reinterpret those beliefs so that Islam can play a more relvant role in the modern world.

Islam is a way of life... But that doesnt mean you cant reinterpret that way of life. Islam isnt written in stone, interpretations can change. Its people who fear change who generally get left behind... And lets face it, to say that the Muslim world has been left behind is a rather huge understatement.

Re: Want to pray 3 times a day? Well here's a fatwa!!!

I think we can safely include 'Hardship' in the list of excuses too. I agree with this sunni understanding.

Maybe or maybe not.

The wording inclinds more towards use of force, otherwise the consession is nothing new. and acceptable among muslims more or less.
