wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

so finally decided to retire my barra dabba Tv to get an lcd but teh question is whether to wall mount it or put it on a stand. concern i have with it sitting on a stand is..well two concerns..and both concerns are 2 year olds with the energy of 10 energizer bunnies and they will get to it one day.

how secure is it if it is sitting on top of a stand or do u actually anchor it to the stand somehow. I am not talking about stands with the back portion to attach the lcd tv to.

help!!

Re: wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

go for TV stand.

worst case scenario (happened with me when i had to babysit)
cuz no matter what you wife have to put cartoon to ur kids so they dont disturb her. but if it is mounted on the wall she have to come up there and set for them…and they wont gonna play with functions if it mounted.

  • ur kids will always will be willing to touch the TV (they can even bring the stool, or what not) to change the channel…so loads of experimenting is involved. so there will be a fear involved (:naoz: falling of TV )

  • you have to look up on an angle and it gets really hard especially if elderly people (ur mother or father) is in the room.

your kid will also lay down in order to watch the TV…which is a bad for the eyesight.
besides when we are tired we try not to look, so it will be hard for me atleast.

ps. my mother also wanted to get it mounted but i gave her reasoning of where we gonna put the controllers, or no matter what we have to buy the TV desk/stand in order to put DVD player, game consoles, magzines, etc…so why put extra money.

Re: wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

i am nort concerned about functional aspects or where I will have the remotes. I am simply concerned about the stability of the TVs sitting on the stands because I cant keep an eye on the kids at all times and I dont want to be in a situation whee they topple it on themselves.

for family room I am getting a special media stand with a back bracker to attach teh TV. I am concerend about the upstairs one for which I am not sure.

I am not planning to put TV up 20 feet on the wall as every generic sheeple does though.

Re: wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

My kids ruined two of my TV sets , by unglifying and pangafying them. My plasma is mounted on the wall in the living room. Aesthetically it looks cool too. In my case the house was pre wired for this purpose so no unsightly wiring can be seen even they pre-wired the sound systems so sound system wires are hidden too. Normally this is the concern for people , they have to hide the wiring for electric , DVD , sound system , VHS etc. If you are willing to put time and effort to hide that wiring then go for wall mount it will save it from the kids and will look cool too.
No my TV is not mounted at 20 feet height , its bottom edge is at 6 feet height. The builder had designed the space above the fire place for this purpose.

Re: wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

I would recommend mounting TV on the wall not only because it looks really cool, but also because it is safe with kids around. The base is not stable enough to withstand a push and this could pose danger for both tv and the kid. Also, as Mirch mentioned the fingerprints are bound to happen if it is within kid's reach.
I have mine mounted and since the wall was not prewired for this, I've tied up every cable together all the way to the source which gives a very clean look.

So which TV did you decide to get?

Re: wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

MOUNT IT!!

looks hot -
out of the kids way --
leave more space in the room

but I would suggest getting it professionally installed since there are little boogers running around -- you dont want it falling anywhere... allah na karai..

*PS side note; Maria pupho is soooo upset that she's not been getting updates on her little bumble bees. I want pictures!!

Re: wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

As long as you screw the mount on studs behind the wall you should be fine.

Yup the wall mount kit I bought even had a tiny studs finder in it.

We have one of those -- still ugly if you ask me--

You should speak to The Prodigy... thanks to him we have an in home theatre and all the wires are invisible. He maybe able to give you some pointers on the mounting, and behind the wall work he's done.

Re: wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

no concern with behind the wall work, had my entire family room wired for audio, had hidden the wires for a stereo that hung on the wall in one of the rooms. here are pics of consoles we are looking at where the tv actually mounts to the back of the console, wires are hidden, no torr phorr with the wall and it allows me to reposition the room easily. I have the room wired in such a manner that I can move from one side to other and still have access to surround sound plugs. its the TV mount that I am kinda trying to avoid.

below are two media stands we are looking at.

wall mount would be cheaper, but begum likes console, i was trying to see if I can go for a cheaper console for upstairs, but it looks like wallmount in bedroom, family room is still going to go into negotiation series.

Re: wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

Maria pics will be up soon. been tarvelling so much that just have not been on GS much

Re: wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

We have ours on a media stand. Looks good, great view. For some reason all the wall mounted plasmas we have seen in other people’s homes don’t look that great for some reason or the other… :bummer:

With kids, you need to get a screen cleaner and special cloth…because their fingerprints will be all over the place. Media stand are very sturdy so you don’t have to worry about your TV falling off or anything.

My only concern is the fingerprints, and in the case of my choti, her spaghetti sauce lip stains during her extreme outbursts of love for Dora and Wow Wow Wubzie! :smack:

Re: wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

niksik yeah, cleaning is a nonstop activity here now.
the media stands like teh one I posted where teh Tv attaches to teh back of the stand are def secure, i was wondering about the ones where the Tv sits on top and whether they just sit on top or do they get anchored to the surface somehow. I thought it just sits which def will not fly.

Re: wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

Ours just sits. No anchor. It's secure enough I say. At least so far so good.

Re: wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

my concern is if a kid pushes it it may tumble

Re: wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

Bhaisahaab woh bachchay haiN, jinn nahiN :emmy:

And then when the media center is pushed against the wall and has sides how will the TV tumble? Unless they pull it forward. These TVs are solid heavy, nahi? Ours is.

Yes kids can tumble it two ways. backwards you can flush it with the back wall, forward , tie it with the wall or the entertainment center you are using to put it on. The kids cannot tumble it side ways so do not worry about that part. But I will still say it looks cool if you mount it on the wall 6 fee above the ground.

Re: wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

`a 46 inch samsung lcd is 50 lbs, not really that heavy ya?
maybe i am worrying for no reason i dunno :konfused:

Re: wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

Have faith in your angels (!!). Your TV will survive. Otherwise you can always get another one. Itni bhi mehengay nahi hotay. They are actually cheaper than monthy gas expense. Take a month off from work, save on gas, then buy another one if this one gets ruined. Then donate the ruined one to charity. Sawaab bhi milay ga.

Masha’Allah I am such a genius. :chai:

Re: wall mount vs tv stand for an lcd tv

It is quite hard to tumble LCD's because of pretty wide base stand. WHy dont you take kids to circuit city and do a little test of your own ..

Most of the wall mounting units are hanging at a level where you have to look up at them. That posture gets too triring too soon. Belive me

TV should sit at your eye level when you are sitting down, If you can have them mount it at that level, it will work
