Waar -- Box Office Predictions

Re: Waar – Box Office Predictions

when in UK  batado koiiiiii

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions

As per the figures circulating in the blogosphere and on twitter, the movie has broken the record for single day business in the country by generating PKR 18 million business on its first day. That's phenomenal for a 50 screen release and bodes well for the overall financial outcome for the movie.

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions

^ Sounds awesome!

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions

why has this movie being given an "ADULT ONLY" certificate by the Pakistani Censor Board?

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions

I am assuming for its implied sexual scenes and also the violence?

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions

i don't think so because Pakistani movies there is NO sexual content. violence may be!!!

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions

It cost 2.2 million to make, (dollars), i hope they recover it

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions

for that to happen it needs to do double the business its doing at the moment. But I think more than the profits at least the movie is getting the people out of their homes and into the theaters. I just wish that the makers had utilized the Urdu language more than English.

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions

What's so special about this movie?

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions

ISPR funded it so no recovery, no problem :p I am having a hard time believing the box office figures btw. I find it fishy that all ISPR funded movies somehow "break" all records and a few months down the road we find out they didn't even break even (case in point khuda ke liye)

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions

Saw it! The movie is houseful through the weekend -- no seats, period. The audience at my theater was charged and totally involved. The movie is very, very different from your average Bollywood or even Hollywood flicks. It's shot in a very true to life fashion. However, it only engages in portions and they need to edit out roughly 40-45mins of the 140 minute picture. Shaan with some help from pyrotechnics (which are aplenty) and the solid photography makes the best out of a rather lazy script and shines over his peers in the movie. The tone is very sombre and real here and they do manage to highlight an all important issue (i.e. the human cost of fighting all these conflicts). Recommended for a dekko, at least once.

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions

ISPR? u mean the military wing? why would they finance a movie?

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions

^ ISPR is the PR wing of the military. Mostly stuff that is pro military or supports pro military agenda. Their official past projects include sunehrey din and alpha bravo charlie (as listed on their website). But they've also funded khuda ke liye, and bol to further their stance of extremism being a problem in the country. Those two aren't officially recognized by ISPR as their own production but industry insiders as well as military related people know the reality. Similarly the writer/producer of Waar, Hassan Waqas Rana, produced the 'glorious resolve' (which is officially recognized by ISPR as their production). People who have worked closely with him on Waar also know that it was funded by the ISPR. No private entity would be willing to splurge the absurd amount of funds, that went into producing Waar (which is estimated to have cost WAYYYY more than the supposed $2 Million budget. All most production was done by a leading studio in hollywood. Several hollywood directors were flown into isloo (circa 2009) as consultants. I believe one guy from hollywood stayed in marriott for a few months, right about the time of the major blast there.
anyways I am happy that the movie is doing well, but it is in no way the poster child for the remergence of pakistan's struggling industry. That would be zinda bhaag or Main hoon shahid afridi, or even Ishq Khuda.

Re: Waar – Box Office Predictions

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions

As it turns out, my predictions were spot on -- Waar is set to collect around PKR 75 million (after tax) for the 5 day extended weekend and PKR 100 million in gross revenues. It will easily recoup at least 50% of its budget by the coming Friday. A resounding success by all counts and al the more amazing since the movie is totally non-formula, lacks song and dance and is mostly in English.

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions

I went to watch Waar and must say it was worth watching, some flaws here and there but you can just ignore and appreciate the effort been put to make this movie. A big THUMBS UP from me!

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions

Great to hear that! I have read some mixed reviews, but mostly positive. The film has done huge business and its good signs for pakistani cinema. Its proves that good movies are watched by the masses, even if it is pakistani!

I hope we get a international release soon. Show it in Norway :D
