Releases this Eid. And they’ll almost have a 6 day holiday to cash on. Provided the movie is reasonably good and not an outright disaster, it should end up grossing PKR 80 Million + in its opening week and will probably break the box office record for the highest opening in the country. It’s lifetime gross is anyone’s guess (and contingent to a large extent on how good or bad the actual film is) but a reasonable ballpark figure would be somewhere around or over PKR 200 Million which should end up placing it just behind 1998’s Choorian in terms of box office revenues. Interesting times ahead for Pakistani cinema, definitely.
Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions
Exciting. Just saw promo on Aaj TV during Nusrat Haris show about the Gilgit Baltistan culture and music (great show).
Don't know about the concept and theme of the Waar story-line but it certain looks enticing visually.
Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions
I am informed by fairly reliable sources that this one is going to get the highest screen count -- 50+ -- for any movie released in Pak, which makes the PKR 80 million opening week target reasonably easy to achieve. All of this bodes well for locally produced movies which are now finally catching traction with the audience, the other major release Main Hoon Shahid Afridi is still running and has received positive reviews from the critics and audience alike. Waar will definitely utilize some of that goodwill and hopefully end up shattering a few more records in its (successful) run.
Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions
The film is going to be released on Eid-ul-Fitr, anyone has any idea if it would be released in USA as well at the same time or we would have to wait for another few months? Josh and Main Hoon Shahid Afridi has still not been released anywhere in USA. Pakistani filmakers have hard time finding distributors to release their films. It took 4 to 5 months after Khuda Ke Liye and then Bol were released in Pakistan/Dubai/UK and then later after 4 to 5 months the US audience got to see it in theaters. And that too because of Indian media distributors in USA who made it happen, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to see those movies in theatres.
Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions
Waar was supposed to be released on 6th september...was that a rumor I came across? Since then I have been waiting it to be released in UK. Looking forward anxiously to watch this movie on big screen.
Please if anyone can mention when is it going to be released in UK?!! I am sure they're gonna earn a lot from this public too!!
Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions
Can't wait...wish I was in Pakistan for the opening!
Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions
So are their any reviews out there apart from the one from tribune.com.pk?
Re: Waar – Box Office Predictions
They just screened it in Karachi, next is Lahore, I was reading facebook updates from Bilal Lashari’s webpage. i have heard no hungama about this on the news. Very disappointing that the news is barely giving this attention. ![]()
Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions
Well, Pakistani media outlets each have their vested interests and turfs to protect, so you cannot expect much by the way of all around coverage and hype for a major film produced in part by one of the local channels. Having said that, the social media has generated quite a positive buzz for the movie and then the anticipation has been there for years now so it's pretty much taken for granted that people will turn up.

Thats so true! Since its a ARY movie, only Ary will promote it or even give a single news about it. No other channel will bother to say something about countries biggest movie. Sad, but true. Its then limited to some channels. Producers with limited budget will struggle to reach the masses, but since Bilal has had enough of recourses, he has so far succeed.
The movie looks amazing and I am proud about a movie like Waar has been made in Pakistan by pakistanis!
Go and watch it!
Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions
So whats the reaction to the movie? This should be on the headline of every newspaper.

I have only read good critics about the movie. Its truely cinema exp and has surely lifted the standard of the industry. Since its a action movie, story is not soo strong, but its a must watch. Thats what I have read so fare.

flop.

Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions
I haven't seen commercials on tv for it unlike mai hoon shahid afridi. Why was the latter promoted like crazy?
Re: Waar – Box Office Predictions
This review criticizes English as being the main language of the movie. One aspect of the argument is that the movie will reach foreign audiences as it’s penned in English, but getting Pakistanis, even well schooled ones, to really give an awesome performance in English is hard. I’d rather the movie have been done in Urdu with English subtitles like any other entry to foreign movies at the Oscars. People can always read subtitles.
No to Priyanka, yes to Waar for Shamoon Abbasi – The Express Tribune
And I guess Lashari is the son of some politician? Who is also in the movie? So Bilal Lashari directed his dad. Interesting.
Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions
I guess ARY is behind Waar. I agree though, every channel should have been showing ad nauseum ads for it.
Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions
Expect box office records to be shattered tomorrow. Most people know by now that a lot of the movie is in English - no big deal, half of Khuda Ke Liye was in English and there were no subtitles. They are subtitling this one. Also, not surprisingly, Pakistani media in its typical Pakistani fashion is busy putting this flick down but they will be sorely disappointed for the audience verdict rules supreme and from what I hear the movie has all it takes to receive a huge positive response.

I agree the movie should have been made in urdu, but anyway I still hope and believe it will do good business.
Re: Waar -- Box Office Predictions
From what I'm reading, seems like the critics are supporting this. Mostly. Some critic commented that Meesha Shafi and Ali Azmat can't act.
It's 10/16 by now, has anyone gone and seen this ? (lemme guess, no).
