Voyeurism

Voyeurism or “peeping tomism” is obtaining sexual arousal and gratification by observing nude individuals without their knowledge or consent. The concept of peeping tom originated in England when Lady Godiva ran naked thru the streets of Coventry to protest the imposition of taxes. The puritanical leaders instructed everyone to stay indoors. Not this man Tommy Tom; he was blinded and nicknamed “peeping tom” for his brazen crime.

I recently took notice of this voyeurism issue when one of my teenage nieces got upset upon realizing that she was secretly videotaped at a grocery store in Jackson Heights. Perpetrator flat out denied it. My uncle is a lawyer who says the guy really didn’t break any law, since he allegedly videotaped her in a public place. The US House of Rep. passed a Bill in 2003, which makes video voyeurism a federal offense if commited on “federal property.”

So, basically with the advent of camera phones and state-of- the-art technology (now you can put a camera at the tip of your shoe and videotape someone on an escalator) anyone can engage in these reprehensible and disgusting behavior and not break the law. In reiteration, “upskirt” and “downblouse” photography does NOT violate most US states’ voyeurism statutes, except i think California and Washintogn, where surreptitious photographing of private parts is deemed illegal. All the more reason for women not to wear skirts, let alone mini-skirts, and be victimized. I just googled the term “upskirt” and got more than a million hits!!! (I didnt check anyone of them out though:p ). It worries me, does it worry you? I don’t understand why the Govt. is still incapable of passing legislation that will properly address this growing problem? Who are they trying to placate?

This concern coupled with the recent wave of illegal CDs, made by desi guys (PCG beware!!) containing secret videotapes of their unsuspecting girfriends having sex, is creating quite a scandal too. There are no laws to effectively prosecute these FOBs, since they commit the crime in Pakistan and then leave the country with a suitcase full of CDs.

These are heinous crimes and I would like to hear more about them from you people. Islamic points of view are welcome too. Why aren’t there any "peeping Marys?’ Discuss. Healthy dose of male bashing is welcome too.

Re: Voyeurism

There aren't any peeping Mary's because sex means more to a girl than a cheap 30 ruppee porn CD.

Re: Voyeurism

I had this nagging suspicion that your comments would somehow have the mention of "peeping marys." So predictable. So, PCG have you ever been a victim or know anyone who has been?

Re: Voyeurism

Other than some article I read on Jang or Dawn or some other paper/magazine, I haven't heard of these things happening in real life. I guess girls wont really go around and say "hey, yeah, my bf is selling our sex tape"...

Re: Voyeurism

When we were leaving Saudi Arabia after Hajj, the police who work at the airport (I am assuming they were police) were taking their sweet time when it came to letting people in through their designated gate. The line up was ridiculous, but once we got closer to the gate, we saw that they were taking pictures with their cell phones of all the females, mainly white women, giggling like little girls and swapping cameras to show each other the pictures they caught. They were mainly doing it to the stewardesses, and no, they were not wearing skirts. They just happened to be in uniform and have parts of their hair showing. It was pretty pathetic watching these boys, they weren't even discreet about it either.

Re: Voyeurism

@PCG : and I paid 50rps for it! I feel voilated :) ... j/k

Re: Voyeurism

Did you swat them with your suitcase when they tried to take a pic of you?

Re: Voyeurism

They didn't try it with me. I guess I was not gori enough for them. :(

My dad and brother saw what they were doing and made it a point to stay next to us for as long as they could before we were sent off to be checked (females are checked seperately). It was mainly the stewardesses they were after. Sad men. I felt bad for the stewardesses cause they weren't even discreet about taking their pics with the cell phone cameras.

Re: Voyeurism

See, but that's where the stewerdesses should have swat 'em good and hard. Taken the darn phones and crushed 'em under their 6-inch heels. That's really weird - NO ONE reported them?

I'd so be on their puny little arses. Send 'em back to ammi jaan for more coddling.

Re: Voyeurism

guys in saudi are really horny and they get off seeing just about any female without an abaya. trust me i used to live there

Re: Voyeurism

PCG, who is going to report the police in Saudi Arabia? Who would they report them to since it was the police who were doing it? Really, I doubt anybody would dare say anything to them.

Re: Voyeurism

But, but, but…like aren’t they all about women’s protection?

Oh gosh, look another one of my ummeedain crushed. :crying:

Re: Voyeurism

Maybe they are ... maybe these were a few rotten apples I happened to come across.

Re: Voyeurism

Hmm. you seem upset by the fact that they didnt photograph you, which leads me to two generalized assumptions: Women love attention regardless from where they get it  , and if not that, then you have a gori complex:p :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Voyeurism

generalized assumptions indeed. :D

Re: Voyeurism

Haii Allahh… and I thought you were a teenager yourself. Lemme know when you come to the middle east. I got a S700i  … ahhh… no wait, I think ive already lost it :crying: awright awright, when i get another cam phone

Re: Voyeurism

Height of desperation. Doesn’t it make you mad how low people can be at times? :frusty: Just shows how desperate and repressed these lowlifes are by taking pics of women they can never pull, let alone see again.

Re: Voyeurism

did u notice how everyone was on a cell fone IN the haram

Re: Voyeurism

Oh yeah, it was really disturbing Aishaaa. During tawaf, people would be taking pictures of the Kaba and talking to their relatives in Pakistan asking if they got the pictures. I guess they were transferring them then and there. Talk about distracting.

Re: Voyeurism

the worst is when indian songs are played during namaz, as these a-holes get calls.
